Life & Work with Natalie McMillan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie McMillan.

Hi Natalie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started photography when I was in high school as just a hobby. A year after I graduated in 2015, I was asked to shoot my first wedding for a friend. I continued to do photography for fun as I continued to go to school and work in the medical field. In 2021 I was starting to feel like the career path I was on wasn’t something I was passionate about. It was then, that I decided to offer more of my time for photography sessions and started to grow my business. In that year, I booked 57 sessions and realized I could make my passion and hobby my career. On 2.22.22, I took the next step and I got my LLC. I never thought I would be where I am today or own my own business. It has been the greatest experience of my life. I love being able to help people tell their story while also making them feel beautiful and enjoy the memories of the season of life they are in.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Some of the greatest struggles I had in the beginning were time management as I transitioned from one job to the other. Essentially I was working two full time jobs for an entire year. There were so many late nights and early mornings I spent editing client galleries, building my website, and working on marketing. I didn’t give myself any personal time and worked really hard to be where I am. I saw the potential and dream I had and I was willing to do anything to get there.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Minnesota based wedding and lifestyle photographer. Some of the other session types I do besides weddings are high school seniors, family, maternity, newborn, and branding.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I have my Emergency Medical Technician license and have served at multiple local volunteer fire departments. I will always have a special spot in my heart for this field of medicine and hope to continue to volunteer with local departments throughout my life.
