Life & Work with Nell Tryst

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nell Tryst.

Nell Tryst

Hi Nell, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
During our previous interview last year, we delved into the fact that I began my journey in painting at a young age due to a diagnosis of heart disease. However, it is crucial to shift the focus towards the perseverance required to pursue a career in painting. I realized early on that the path to becoming an artist varies for each individual, and often, you will be the trailblazer. While there are moments of exhilaration that surpass your wildest dreams, it is the days dedicated to establishing a solid groundwork that holds the utmost significance.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an artist can be challenging, especially when you become your worst enemy. The influence of social media can be detrimental to your creative process, as constantly comparing yourself to others can be incredibly damaging. It is important to remember that being a creative individual is not a linear path. Instead of fixating on one breakthrough, it is more beneficial to set steady goals for yourself and appreciate the journey toward achieving them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, tell us more about your work next.
It’s essential to continue flourishing and growing your community as a painter. Since our last conversation, I am excited to share that I have been selected for the artist in residency program at the Twin Cities Pride Foundation. This invaluable opportunity has immensely contributed to my career development throughout the past year. Engaging with fellow artists and broadening my understanding of the diverse applications of art has been an extraordinary experience.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
In my current stage of artistic development, I have learned that while it is crucial to acknowledge and celebrate successes, it is equally, if not more, important to learn from failures and use them as opportunities for growth and improvement.
