Life & Work with Nicholas of Twin Cities, MN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas

Hi Nicholas, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my photography journey back in 2016. Throughout my life, I always saw myself as a person that likes adventure. To explore. To see the world. However I found myself becoming too comfortable being at home. It honestly scared me a bit when I realized that. I needed something to motivate me to get outside and explore again. I always had an interest in photography, so I purchased a basic DSLR kit camera and went out to explore. It changed my life- I have gone to more places, met more people, had more experiences, and in general have more zest for life than I had if I didn’t get involved in photography.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say it has been smooth. There are challenges to photography. But I see those challenges as ways to grow. If I cannot create the image that I want, I figure it out. I learn how to use my camera the way it needs to be used in order to create the image I have in my mind. The biggest struggle is something I think a lot of modern photographers can relate to- social media. I need to focus on creating images that I am proud of, and not focus on how many “likes” a photo gets.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer. I specialize in landscapes and astrophotography. I tend to be the person who will go to any lengths to get the shot. Spend all night outside in the freezing cold? Done that more times than I can count. Hang off the side of a cliff to get the perfect angle? Check. Drive thousands of miles in the hopes of capturing that perfect moment? Also check. Overall I am most proud of my growth. I am always learning. Always trying to improve. And I like to think that my work shows that.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Growing up, my Dad and I used to go on a lot of trips. Most were small trips, like to the North Shore and such to go camping. Other times we would go all the way to the Badlands and Black Hills of South Dakota if we happened to have a 3 day weekend. As I grew older, we started taking bigger road trips out West and to the Southwest. Those trips gave me an appreciation for the outdoors and exploring new areas.
