Life & Work with Nicole Myhre

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Myhre.

Nicole Myhre

Hi Nicole, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
If you would have told me 6 years ago that I would leave my career as a hairstylist and all my dear clients to own a Home Care Company, I wouldn’t have believed you. I met one of my forever friends at a retreat here in Northern MN 6 years ago. She is from the East Coast and told me about Griswold Home Care, which her grandmother was one of the first women to open the franchise for Jean Griswold.

Not really thinking much of that but it’s “Neat”. Fast forward to 2020 when I had my second child, my grandmother who has been my most beloved and cherished person my whole life, passed away due to covid and dementia. I couldn’t be there with her or attend her funeral. Let’s just say it rocked me to my core. Devastated me that I could not hold her hand in her last days. What living in isolation could do and how if she had been able to stay in her home may have changed the story. If anything, we would have been able to have more control over her care and how she was treated. So that’s the sad part but what has transpired since then has been nothing short of a miracle.

Brett my husband and I visited Natalie on the East Coast and she just casually suggested we could open a Griswold in Minnesota. Well, that blossomed into us wanting to help the people of our community and give them options on how and where they need help and that we can help them. I see my grandmother every day in all the people that I meet and help. It’s extremely rewarding to be a part of the relationships between clients and caregivers form and become like family. God has taken the tragedy and turned it into a blessing. I have so much faith and know this is our calling.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting our license while the government was still shut down with accepting new businesses in 2021. Learning the challenges of hiring and finding reliable people who want to work.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have always enjoyed learning about people and their lives. I was a hairstylist for 17 years and the best part of the job was the relationships I had with my clients. They become your friends and know more about you than some of your family even know. It was also a great creative outlet that I got to help people feel confident and beautiful. I have no idea what I am known for. Hopefully not being stinky. I’m very proud of my husband, Brett.

He is such a great leader, manager, and boss. He is so patient and kind and has a way of explaining things that don’t make people feel insecure, Griswold would not operate without him, that is for sure. Griswold is different from other companies because we are passionate about our clients and accommodating their needs. I want to do everything I can to keep hope alive for families that have hit roadblocks or been told no so many times. It’s not easy but very rewarding.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Haha, this is a great question because you will get 2 very different answers from both of us. I would be very curious to hear how Brett answers this. I, on the other hand, say yes.

I can be impulsive to a fault, but I also push through the fear because I have faith. Failure is an opportunity for growth and learning.
