Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Barnett.
Hi Renee, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started as a receptionist at the salon in 2010. I was a junior in high school, and I had been getting my hair done there my whole life – since my first haircut at a year old. As I neared the end of high school, I decided to go to cosmetology school. Once I got my license, I started doing hair in 2013. I became manager in 2017 and purchased the salon from the previous owner in December of 2023.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I had my daughter in March of 2023, so balancing owning a business and motherhood was probably my biggest obstacle.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Behind the chair, I love blonding and lightening hair. As an owner, I feel like our strongest asset as a salon is our team mentality. We are all working together constantly, and enjoy being with each other.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I’ve learned to really get to know people, beyond just surface level things. Asking people questions beyond the typical “what do you do for work” and “did you grow up around here” helps to truly connect. I’ve found that we’re all a lot more similar than we are different, and I have so much to learn from everyone I meet.
