Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Early.
Hi Sharon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to be a hairstylist. I remember being 4 years old and watching my sister getting her hair shampooed at a salon and thinking, “This is what I want to do someday!” I used to cut my family’s hair, even before going to beauty school, setting up a “hair salon” in my bedroom. I pursued my dream and got a license in Cosmetology, graduating from Aveda in Minneapolis, MN, in 2012. After years of being in a salon setting, I decided to stretch my wings and rent a suite at Salon’s by JC in Woodbury, MN, in March of 2022. I love what I do and love my clients!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some struggles have come up along the way. Covid closed the salon where I worked in 2020, which brought up many insecurities for me. Where would I go? What would I do next? How would this impact clients coming into the salon in the future? While I still think COVID has been affecting certain aspects of the industry in general, things have worked out and fallen into place, and I love where I am now. Everything happens for a reason.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m most proud of myself for going out and starting my own business. It was challenging to enter into the unknowns of being self-employed. But, it’s through the uncertain times that we experience the most growth as individuals, and I wanted that. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone of a salon and see myself grow professionally and personally! I’ve learned a lot and am grateful to God for all the amazing experiences I’ve had with this opportunity. Men’s cuts and curly haircuts are two of the things I am also very proud of doing. When I was in beauty school, my instructors told me those were the two most difficult services. I made it a personal goal to understand what made them so challenging and how to customize a haircut and master it. I’ve done exactly that. I also love foiling, haircuts in general, all-over colors, and brow waxes, and I take great pride in my scalp massages. Recently, I remodeled my salon to be “Friends” themed because I am obsessed with Friends, and I would consider all of my clients my Friends! A bonus to my obsession is that my boyfriend of almost two years is named Chandler. 😉
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is visiting my cousins and grandparents in Arizona and California.
