Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophie Herber.
Hi Sophie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It all started in a college darkroom in 2023, and I FELL IN LOVE IMMEDIATELY.
Photography gave me a way to slow down and notice the quieter moments that often get missed between the big milestones. We can’t pause time, but I think a photo is the closest thing to it — something you can come back to and feel all over again.
I wish I’d come to this understanding in a happier way, but it was born out of loss. Facing life without the people who shaped me made me realize how devastatingly fast time moves, and how easily we take the “good old days” for granted.
The look of joy from your grandparents watching you walk down the aisle, the tear running down your dad’s cheek during the first dance — these are the moments we desperately want to hold onto. When memories inevitably start to soften over time, photographs ensure they never truly fade.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building my business was far from easy. Growing up, I watched my parents run their own businesses which opened me up to both the flexibility, and deep dedication it takes to do so. My senior year of college I created an Instagram account to share some of my work. Once I was at a point where I was working with paying clients, I had to maintain that flow. I minored in Advertising but that doesn’t mean promoting myself has been easy.
In a world full of automation, and lack of authenticity, I worked to find a voice that felt true to me. Standing out isn’t about fitting into a template; it’s about building genuine connection. On top of the creative side, stepping into the back-end operations was a massive learning curve. Learning how to manage client contracts, keep up with invoicing, market consistently, and balance administrative workflows alongside the actual creative work requires wearing every single hat at once.
It takes constant trial and error to figure out what works, but every challenge has pushed me to refine my craft and stay grounded in why I started in the first place.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in wedding and engagement photography and describe my style as true to color, authentic, and timeless. My approach is defined by a commitment to gentle guidance and a sharp eye for detail, all balanced by an incredible sense of humor (woah, who said that?).
I strive to make the process feel as effortless as the final images look, allowing my clients to remain at the center of their own story. Ultimately, I want them to look back at their gallery and remember what it felt like to truly be there, not just what the day looked like through a lens.
How do you think about happiness?
First things first; kindness.
Work related, I would say seeing my clients print and frame their work. Knowing that I captured a split second in time that they felt connected enough to to place on the walls of their home is an amazing feeling.
