Today we’d like to introduce you to The TheraBro.
Hello TheraBro, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ok sounds good, but hold on to something because this gets intense fast. I’ll start with the evolution of the idea that led to the inception of our brand…
We believe Mental Health has been man’s greatest struggle since the beginning of time, and while it is a great struggle, it is too often a silent struggle. The idea here is to inspire others to tackle this issue as a collective and bring men’s Mental Health awareness to the forefront of society. That’s the idea, but the tricky part was finding a way to normalize therapy and inspire a movement simply by walking down the street. We found our answer by looking back in time.
Throughout history, uniforms emboldened camaraderie. Regardless of the challenge, a uniform displays unity, and purpose, and inspires movements that can change the world. Men’s Mental Health awareness is a movement, and our clothing is the face of that change. We’re literally wearing our hearts on our sleeves.
Our idea is a clothing line that embodies one’s dedication to Mental Health. Our core values are what we call the “Three F’s” – Fashion, Fitness, and Feelings. We are completely and utterly devoted to both introspective and extrospective improvement. We want you to look good from the inside out. A healthy body must include a healthy mind, and we believe therapy leads to a healthy mind. At TheraBro.com we’re creating a uniform for man’s greatest battle of the 22nd century: Mental Health. TheraBro.com isn’t just an idea, it’s a new way of life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to mental is never smooth. There are potholes of shame, inclement weather of others’ opinions, and roadblocks to access. Too often men feel pressured by social and cultural norms to mask their feelings. Our progressive approach encourages men to be in touch with their feelings. We talk about Mental Health the same way we talk about physical health and believe you should too. Going to therapy should be seen as going to the gym or enlisting the help of a personal trainer.
The mind is a muscle and needs a gym too.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
TheraBro is an entirely new concept designed to combat antiquated stigmas and promote a positive and normalized image of men tackling serious Mental Health issues. However, we want you to tackle those issues in style. Therapy should not be a place for yesterday’s styles or old trends. Therapy should be where you flaunt your A-game threads. We want you to look good, and feel good when you reach what we call the Feel Zone™. Sorry, I should explain that first. The Feel Zone™ is when you reach the intersection of our core values: “Fashion, Fitness, and Feelings.”
Think of it like a Venn diagram. The bigger and closer the circles are the greater overlap. The fitness circle is you hitting the gym. The feelings circle is you hitting the therapy couch. And the Fashion circle is where we come in. The Feel Zone™ is when you have a single Venn diagram circle encompassing the three F’s: Fashion, Fitness, and Feelings.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think creating a fashion line of men’s apparel dedicated to therapy is incredibly risky. First of all, it’s a fashion line for therapy. Like, what even is that? That’s not exactly nor has ever been a thing. It’s hard to explain to people what we’re doing here. That can be uncomfortable.
Second of all, it’s limited to a male focus at this time. I just fell in love with the idea of leading a movement of Therapy Bros across the nation on a mission to change the world of men’s health. The plan is to start a female line as soon as we can catch up with demand on our current line.
The last risk is the virtual aspect of therapy. More and more people are utilizing teletherapy versus traditional in-person sessions. That doesn’t quite benefit an apparel company.
So yeah, I’m taking a lot of risks doing this. I get that. It’s a strange concept right now but there was also a time when creating a basketball shoe company was foreign. But at least the TheraBro name is catchy. You have to admit that. I believe in this idea and find this fulfilling life mission. Every customer I help get into our Feel Zone™ makes it all worthwhile. But I like doing what I’m doing and I’m going to keep doing it. Join me at www.therabro.com and embrace your inner TheraBro.
