Life & Work with Thea Kvamme

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thea Kvamme.

Hi Thea, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in a small town in northern Minnesota but grew up in Decorah, IA. I am currently living in Minnesota again with my family and am a mom to four great kids. I have always dreamed of being a writer and took creative writing classes in both high school and college.

I worked with the elderly in a nursing home as a cook for 19 years, then pursued a career in teaching at a daycare for 3 1/2 years. I now currently work with abstracting and family law, which I enjoy very much, as I get to type and write all day. It has given me the courage to spread my wings and try writing a different genre in books.

My family has always meant the world to me, and I cherish every moment with my children and siblings, as I did with my parents. I had always hoped to pursue a career in writing, to help anyone escape from reality – even just for a short while – and enter a fantasy world!

The first book I wrote in memory of my mom. She had Alzheimer’s disease and her stuffed mouse, Mr. Mousey, made her feel safe. She would talk for him and she would take him everywhere with her. I promised her Mr. Mousey would continue to go on adventures. Mausdrachen, Mr. Mousey turns into a mouse-dragon, helps people through tough times. Mr. Mousey continues to go on adventures with Princess Hannah and helps new friends along the way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I first started submitting my story, I had gotten so many rejection letters. I felt defeated at times, but I never gave up! Since becoming part of foxpointe publishing, I feel I have so much support! I was so happy they gave my story a chance!!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I write children’s books and I have just started writing an adult psycho horror book. I’m known for my Mausdrachen series. I am most proud of being able to help people. What sets me apart from others would probably be my ability to write different types of stories at the same time and not get too confused.

Any big plans?
I plan to continue to write. I love helping people and I love that people can read and “escape the realities of the world” through reading. My biggest change would be going from writing children’s books to my adult psycho horror book.
