Today we’d like to introduce you to Trevor Gieseke.
Hi Trevor, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Trevor Gieseke. I am a sophomore in high school. I started taking photos at a very young age. I was only six when my brother (Colin Piper) died and the only memories I have of him are the photos. It was important to me to make sure to capture those special moments after that because memories fade, but photos can be shared of the life that you’ve led. When I won my first photo contest, I realized photography could be more than just a fun hobby. I’m taking a class in high school that has allowed me to learn how to start a business, and I am actively pursuing this.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Since I started this journey as a hobby, the struggles were not evident taking the class has helped me realize all the components involved in making a business because I am young, it’s still essentially a fun hobby, and while I dream of making it a business I am still aiming for other potential careers as I don’t want the joy I get from taking photos to become a job.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve entered many contests, including entering photos at the local fair. I started off just doing landscapes, but discovered the need wasn’t as fast as I had hoped so I have added in weddings, newborns, family, photos, and other commission mark.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is you can make a business out of what you love doing.
