Today we’d like to introduce you to Tunnel
Hi Tunnel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Tunnel began as an idea to separate my creative identity from my physical one. I wanted to focus on the spiritual and technical nature of my creative life and process, and remove myself from the need to project a fashionable image as a creator. I wanted to create a vehicle to explore an immersive world of sound, myth, and technology. Over the past decade, this vision has evolved into a record label (webuildmachines.com) and live performance project that bridges underground techno and experimental electronic music with the principles of shamanic practice.
In my early days, I was drawn to the hypnotic, ritualistic energy of techno—the way it could transport people into a trance-like state. I saw parallels between that and ancient shamanic practices, where rhythm and repetition altered consciousness. That idea became the foundation of Tunnel—a sonic journey that feels primal, visceral and futuristic.
Building this project took time. It’s never been about just making club music; it’s about exploring my potential as a creator and artist. I focused on growing my knowledge of music technology, refining my sensitivity to the details of sound design and music performance, and slowly growing within a community of listeners who connected with the vision. Over the years, I’ve released music on various labels, and performed for events throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Throughout 2024 I immersed myself in the studio, and recently completed my second studio album, Personas. Personas represents an evolution—both musically and conceptually—as it explores shifting identities at the intersection of future shock, spirituality, human relationships and big data.
The goal now is to push deeper into the global electronic music scene, collaborating with like-minded artists, labels, and events that align with an ethos of human connection through the power of music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges with this project has been navigating access within the scene. Like any art community, the industry has its gatekeepers, unspoken hierarchies, and a roster of preferred performers and insiders. With so many artists vying for the same opportunities, breaking through requires not just talent, but persistence, strategy, and the right connections.
By staying dedicated to my creative vision and consistently sharing my work, I’ve been fortunate to connect with like-minded artists, promoters, and audiences who resonate with what I do and actively support the project.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What do you do? What do you specialize in? What are you known for?
I create dark, immersive techno and experimental music under the project Tunnel, blending hypnotic rhythms, cinematic storytelling, and futuristic soundscapes. My work is an evolving world that bridges the ritualistic energy of techno with themes of shamanism, transformation, and dystopian futurism. I specialize in crafting deep, cinematic sonic experiences that transport listeners beyond the dancefloor into something more otherworldly.
What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of the fact that Tunnel continues to steadily grow in reach and inspires others. Completing my second studio album, Personas, was a major milestone—it represents years of evolution, experimentation, and refining the possibilities of this project. I’m also proud of the connections I’ve built with people along the way, finding a global community of artists and listeners who resonate with the energy Tunnel puts into the world.
What sets you apart from others?
What sets Tunnel apart is its fusion of dancefloor focused sound, experimental sound design, and emotional storytelling. The project exists in a space between ritual and technology, where each release, performance, and visual element contributes to an overarching narrative. Tunnel is about crafting a full sensory journey, one that feels like a transmission from another realm.
What were you like growing up?
It’s fair to say that even at an early age, I was drawn to the mysterious, to nature, to the unconventional, and the deeper layers of things. I was always asking, “Why?” and wanted to know how physical things were built. I read a lot. I was quite independent and would enjoy long walks and bike rides on my own at an early age. I enjoyed building objects out of different materials as a child. I rejected my family’s Christian worldview at age 11, and that set me on a very different path in life.
As far back as I can remember, I’ve always had a strong creative drive, and a strong independent spirit. I picked up Djing at 16 years old, and really became obsessed with the idea of ‘painting with sonic energy.’ I still feel that my creative work in the studio is more like that of a painter, or a sculptor, than a musician. I layer sound, color by color, form by form, combine intention with improvised experiments, and refine, refine, refine. My perfectionism comes from both a high standard and a dark fear of failure.
