Meet Adrian Steinbach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Steinbach.

Hi Adrian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Though my background is technically in fine art and illustration, I’ve always been a person who carries a camera. Ever since I was old enough to be given a disposable Kodak, I’ve been in love with documenting people. Throughout the years, my love of photographing has only grown – from taking pictures of friends, to documenting my art, to eventually getting that first “will you photograph our wedding”?

Once I had a taste of that unique organized chaos of a wedding day, there was no going back.

Nowadays – I focus full-time on documenting couples and weddings, with that previous art background still guiding the way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no.

I consider myself really lucky to continually support myself with this photography business, even despite the chaos everywhere right now.

That said, I think you’ll find that anyone who says being an entrepreneur is easy – is probably lying. Being in charge of marketing, web design, finances, PR, and everything else all the time – is definitely a struggle! As a creative, it can be very difficult to set aside time to work on the back-end of the business (especially when all I want to do is take photos).

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I primarily photograph weddings, elopements, and engagement sessions, though I’ll occasionally work with musicians on creative album art as well.

I’m mostly known for combining a photojournalistic approach with a playful and experimental attitude! About 20-30% of each gallery includes some sort of abstract or experimental photography (especially portraits), in order to add a little bit of fine art to an otherwise candid set of images.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love, love, LOVE “The Creative Pep Talk” podcast!

I first discovered it while I was working with a different medium, but the podcast continued to help me think creatively (and playfully!) even as I focused more and more on photography. Andy Miller (“Andy Pizza” as he’s known on the show) is amazing at giving form to abstract thoughts, helping people approach daily life in a more creative way, and just all-around giving the pep-talk we creatives often need!
