Meet Ally Leonard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ally Leonard.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been a photographer for about four years now. I bought my first camera from a friend and after a basic lesson on how to manually operate it, I just started shooting. I wanted to be creative, and started practicing portraits on friends for fun. Soon after I began shooting, more and more people began to ask me if I could create content for them, and things just started to take off from there!

I am very involved in the fitness community, and I knew I wanted my niche to be focused on health and wellness photography, I still enjoy other types of creative work (i.e portraits, travel, events, etc.) but my true passion is capturing fitness, food, and wellness/lifestyle brands.

I have recently started crafting my skills in videography as well, and can’t wait to continue to see where this creative journey takes me!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As an entrepreneur in a creative industry, I cannot say it has been a completely easy journey. I have worked to develop my niche in wellness media, which involved re-branding my photography business. Establishing yourself and getting your name out there takes time, and it’s all about building relationships.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a photographer (and aspiring videographer) who focuses on curating content for the wellness industry. My ideal clients are personal trainers, athletes, gyms/fitness facilities, health food products, activewear, and other wellness brands.

What sets me apart from others is that I am specializing and focusing on this specific industry, and making it more about “lifestyle” wellness content rather than the more “staged studio” fitness photos that most people think of.

I am most proud of the connections I have began to make with big names (social media influencers and pro athletes) that will soon become my recurring clientele.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I took one beginner photography workshop after buying my camera 4 years ago – after that it has mainly been practicing and perfecting my skills over time. I have so many amazing friends and peers who have supported my work and encouraged me to take it more seriously, which gave me the confidence to really pursue a career in media.

One of my biggest supporters is my client – Keana Burr – she is my personal trainer and mindset coach. I shoot all of Keana’s content, and she helps to shape me physically and mentally. She has been a huge advocate for not just my photography, but me as an individual.
