Meet Amanda Weeklund of Minneapolis/Metro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Weeklund

Hi Amanda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story starts with my love of art! I have always loved color and being creative. I wanted a job that would keep me creating but not learn to hate it in the end. Everyday is different, every client is different so it keeps me on my toes and challenges me creatively. For my wedding business I knew that I needed to be one step ahead, so 20 years ago I started offering traveling services. That way the bride(s) can relax and not be running around on their wedding day.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My career has been pretty easy for the most part. I start having a relationship with clients the minute they email me about their bridal visions or when they sit in my chair. It can get difficult when their visions are not realistic for their hair. I help them meet in the middle for creating their style. That could be adding extensions, highlights, layers, or even embracing gray!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in making people look and feel their best! I listen to their needs/wants/visions and do my best to make them a reality that is still easy to maintain. One thing that sets me apart is the love that my clients have in return for me. Whether that be a consistent clients in my chair for 20+ years or writing a review about their experience on their wedding day. I also do this all on my own, I schedule and email over 40 weddings per year. I pick my assistants depending on timeline and amount of hair and makeup needed for the morning of the wedding.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality that I feel is most important to my success is being realistic! We live in a world of smoke and mirrors. So many clients come in with Pinterest images of their inspiration pictures. I tell them that no one’s hair can be that blonde and thick without it being a wig or extensions. We work and talk everything out to come to a realistic outcome. Same with makeup, it’s all filters and enhancements. I want them to still look like themselves just enhanced.
