Meet Andrew Schuler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Schuler.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always enjoyed performing. Whether it was pretending to be my favorite movie character when I was little, acting in a school play, or being the frontman of my high-school cover band, I have always loved the stage. The stage is my home.

I also love anything that is badass! I fell in love with pop-punk music around age 10 (after watching a Simple Plan music video in the special features of my Scooby-Doo 2 Monsters Unleashed DVD) and that eventually grew into a love for heavier music in general (metalcore, hardcore, djent)

Over the years the ideas, the plans, the visions, and the mediums have changed, but the mission has always been the same. Be a Creative Badass!!

I started playing guitar at age 8, and have been writing songs ever since, and in October 2021, I released my first album as an independent artist (completely DIY).

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been an easy road at all! I’ve had many different challenges and struggles along the way.

Some are stemming from a lack of direction (in any creative field, the sky is the limit! So it takes a lot just to narrow down what exactly it is you want to do).

Another big struggle for me was with my mental health. I’ve dealt with depression for over 15 years, and I didn’t even know that until about 2 years ago. It caused me to be very isolated from people. For a long time, I thought there was something fundamentally wrong with me and felt like I was just “different” from other people.

And one final thing was just finding the right people to help me along my journey. Between finding the right mentors to just finding the right people to hang out with and associate with.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So I am currently an independent artist, a metal vocalist/frontman, and a music producer.

I release music under my own name “Andrew Schuler.” I am the vocalist for an online metalcore/deathcore band called “Ascenseur.” I currently run a DIY recording studio with Marcus Lhotka of Red Fletcher. I am also starting my own band pretty soon called “Let Them Drown.” (We’re hoping to start releasing music in Spring/Summer of 2023 – which I am very excited for!!)

I would say I specialize in 2 things: Composition and Performance. I am very good at taking an idea from start to finish, and as I’ve mentioned before, the stage is my home so I can bring a lot of energy to a performance.

The thing I am probably most proud of is my song “FROMU2ME.” That song is my best work at this point, from the songwriting, to the production, to how I present it on stage. It is definitely my favorite thing I’ve ever worked on.

What sets me apart, I think, is just my “big picture” vision. I never know what my next step is, but I always try to keep the big picture in mind.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I am definitely not where I want to be yet. I still have a lot of growing to do. I still have a lot of ideas, and a lot of plans. I would say I’m even more in the middle/beginning stages of my career. I definitely feel like I’m on the right track though.
