Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Rumohr.
Hi Annie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Art has always been a huge part of my life. I began taking it seriously in high school and focusing on everything from music, theater, and visual arts. I attended a few semesters of Art school and continued my education as a self-taught artist. I love drawing portraits and realism. To me, capturing the beauty and telling the world is inspiring. About 3 years ago, I rebranded to Esmeray Arts after my divorce. Esmeray means dark moon. It’s the darkness before a new beginning, and I poured everything into my art during this time, turning it into my business today. I know I do 3-5 vendor shows a month, sell online and wholesale, and in a local shop. I live with chronic illnesses, and I am now able to work on my art full time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, I don’t believe any road is smooth as a full-time artist. I do every part myself; I am the creator, the promoter, customer service, production, and shipping; I wouldn’t change it as I love being hands-on. The income is never steady. The creative juices don’t always flow when you need them, and supplies don’t always arrive when you need them. But it’s worth it when you get to happy dance every time your art makes someone smile.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a realism artist who specializes in Portraits of people and animals. I work in digital, watercolor, and acrylic. I also make jewelry and dabble in candle-making. I love to give my work a magical feel. One thing that has set me apart at shows is my “blind dates with a book” I run an online bookstore, and I wrap books up and write a brief description on them, so people are blindly buying a book to read based on genres.
What matters most to you?
I want my work to impact people on an emotional level and inspire them. I love seeing people connect with something I created.
