Meet Anusha Chakraborty of Kids Scholarship Fund

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anusha Chakraborty.

Hi Anusha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started Kids Scholarship Fund (KSF) because I believe every child deserves access to opportunities that inspire learning, creativity, and personal growth, regardless of their financial situation. Growing up, I was fortunate to travel to many countries in experience different cultures, which opened my eyes to how education and exposure truly shape a child’s future. When I visited schools in Kolkata, India, I saw that many children lacked access to books and educational resources. That experience inspired me to take action. I began by writing and donating my own children’s books, and that passion eventually grew into Kids Scholarship Fund, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Today KSF works to provide books, educational resources, and scholarships to help children explore the world to beyond their classrooms. Through community events, partnerships, and fundraising efforts, we continue to grow our impact and connect people who shared the belief that education can change lives. Starting this organization as a student has taught me leadership, responsibility, and the importance of using my voice to make a difference. I’m excited to continue expanding KSF and creating more opportunities for children around the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Starting a nonprofit at a young age, came with many challenges, especially learning how to turn an idea into something sustainable and impactful. In the beginning, I had to learn how to manage fundraising, organize events, build a community connections, and balance my responsibilities as a student while running an organization. There were also moments of uncertainty, wondering whether people would support my mission or whether my efforts would make a meaningful difference. Building awareness and gaining trust in the community took time and patience. However, every challenge became a learning experience. I learned the importance of perseverance, communication, and asking for help when needed. Seeking the children who have received books and opportunities through KSF reminds me why I started, and it motivates me to continue growing and finding new ways to make an impact.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Kids Scholarship Fund?
KSF is a student led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to making education and meaningful opportunities, more accessible to children. Through book donations, fundraising initiatives, and community involvement, KSF works to inspire curiosity, learning, and personal growth among young people. What sets KSF apart is its focus on empowering children through both education and exposure to new experiences. We believe that every child deserves a chance to dream beyond their circumstances and discover their potential. We are most proud of the communities we have reached through our book donations, outreach efforts, and the support of volunteers and donors who have helped our mission grow.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always a curious and creative person. I loved exploring new places, learning about different cultures, reading, and finding ways to express myself through writing and storytelling. I was also very empathetic and often looked for ways to help others, which later became a big part of why I started KSF. I have always enjoyed bouncing academics with my passions outside of school. Whether it was singing, traveling, writing books, participating in community service, or taking on leadership roles. I love trying new things and challenging myself. I was the type of person who asked a lot of questions and wanted to understand the world around me. Looking back, many of the interests I had growing up— creativity, learning about different people and cultures, and wanting to make a positive impact are still the same values that guide me today.
