Today we’d like to introduce you to B.J. Wilder.
B.J. , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My Career in insurance started in 2017. It started like most agents will tell you to do, start with all of your friends and family. Most of my friends and family, (Including my own mother), told me that insurance is a scam and don’t waste my time. After a few years of struggling and proving them right, I finally linked up with a Farmers Insurance agent who enrolled me into the “Protégé Program”. Under that program the agent was supposed to provide me with training, resources, and mentorship, and most importantly, LEADS. And if in a year you sell at least $100,000 worth of insurance, then you get the opportunity to open your own agency and become a business owner.
I was super excited to finally get my shot, so I dove in. However, my mentor agent provided none of that. There was no training, mentorship, or leads provided at all. I had to “get it out of the mud” as they say. After a year of grinding, I finally did hit my goal, opened my own agency! I finally felt like I was in charge of my own destiny. That euphoria was short-lived because a few months after opening my agency it was taken away from me. I had never worked so hard for anything in my life. I felt like I was grieving.
After coming out of that depression, I linked up with Country Financial thru a lady in my COI, and was allowed to open my own agency again. And It has been a God send.
I say all of that to say that there was numerous times that I was knocked down and tripped up and told that this wasn’t going to work for me in one way or another. But if you fight thru all the trials and tribulations and believe in yourself and your dream, you can make anything possible! I am a living testament to that.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
absolutely not. nobody believes in insurance, everyone thinks its a scam. rate increases constantly. the down months are REALLY down. Learning how to not just be a salesman, but actually running a business. etc etc
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
i sell peace of mind and family security in the form og insurance. i specialize in life insurance. thats where insurance can be the most umpactful. I am known for being “Mr. Clean” i always dress up in a suit and tie. i am also known for really truly caring about my clients.
what i am most proud of, and what sets me apart are the same 2 things.
Education- My clients are wayyy more informed than the average, because i educate them on all the major bullet points of their insurance.
Customer service- my customer service is second to none. its the most important thing to me as a consumer, so when im the one providing the service, i recognize how paramount it is.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
i love the diversity in the city. i enjoy learning about different people and different cultures.
the thing i like least about the city is the FRIGID COLD SNAPS. No further explanation needed.
