Meet Bltz Mac

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bltz Mac.

Hi Bltz, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started back in 2015 when my college roommate was a DJ in his hometown – Mexico City. He slowly introduced me to DJs and Producers from all over the world (Martin Garrix, Avicii, and Steve Aoki), along with discovering new artists such as San Holo. Come 2017, we went to Ultra in Miami, where I heard a speech from Afrojack about his story on the main stage.

It was sort of the planting seed of this whole project. The following year we went to EDC – Las Vegas, another major festival in the US. By now, I was obsessed with the music and community surrounding EDM. It didn’t matter if I was at the main stage, a drum & bass stage, or a dubstep stage…everyone was welcoming and high energy! Come January 2020…I decided I was going to buy my first DJ controller (Pioneer DDJ-SB3). In March 2020, the world shut down…wow, it was my opportunity to learn how to DJ! I DJied to myself for 9 months, recording and listening back on my techniques and mistakes. During this time, I was watching DJs (of all popularities) on Twitch.tv and other DJ sets on Youtube. In October of 2020, I decided I was ready to show the public what I could do via Twitch. In about 3 months, I had 100 followers and started creating what is own as the “Blitz Bunch.” At the time I worked remotely from home as a Data Analyst for an insurance company.

Once I realized people liked my mixes, I started working most nights networking on Twitch and growing my brand. I connected with many DJs across the globe, from Canada Australia the UK to Pakistan. I continue to support and promote events across the platform, as well as try to help others grow and learn to DJ and produce music themselves. In March of 2022, I went on a journey of a lifetime. I got to venture over to the UK and the Netherlands, where most of my fan base and DJ network reside. I traveled to 9 cities in 3 weeks, got to DJ in front of people for the first time (London and Cardiff), and met a lot of my community members. During the trip, I got to meet so many lovely people that ultimately inspired me to quit my insurance job and start a plan to become a DJ full-time.

Currently, I am still working as an Executive Assistant at a small manufacturing firm but am in the process of learning music production to a professional level.

I am also looking to move to the Netherlands to live with my girlfriend and create opportunities to further my career in the music industry. I really hope to tour parts of the world in the future, like I was able to for my twitch community members! Today, I am very proud and humble of what I’ve created under the name BltzMac. I’ve learned some very critical lessons during this journey as well.

1 – keep your loved ones close to you, as life will throw endless curveballs to make things difficult (two of my immediate family members have been diagnosed with cancer). 2 – hard, consistent work can in fact make dreams come true. 3 – enjoy the process toward your end goal instead of focusing on the end result in itself. It will allow you to enjoy the journey and not be disappointed with a mistake or bad result. Keep your head up, and keep going, staying true to yourself.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No career or journey is ever smooth. I started this project during COVID, knowing the effect it had on DJs across the world. I’m constantly second-guessing my decision to move, let go of all my schooling, and do what I truly want.

Another struggle is life in general…how am I going to pay the bills? Am I going to be free for this or that event? How can I live with my significant other? Self-employment comes with a lot more responsibilities in life. But then again…working 50+ hours to pay your bills isn’t sustainable either.

Navigating life’s challenges along with societal pressures has to be the hardest part of it all – finding that balance.

When I am BltzMac, most challenges go away because I can be myself and express myself through music. I know the music industry will be a future struggle (i.e. record labels, copyrights, etc.), but I continue to grow my support group and connections to help me navigate this newly discovered career path.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work is still very much in development. BltzMac is not meant to be a short-term project, but rather hopefully take up the rest of my life. I’m 3 years into something I grew up knowing nothing about. Since 2015, I spend every day learning something new about mixing, music production, other producers, social media tricks, etc. Right now, I specialize in high-energy DJ mixing and live performances.

Within these sets, I try to incorporate multiple sub-genres of EDM, helping others explore music they wouldn’t normally listen to. I have a lot of fun tracks that bridge the gaps between sub-genres, or just a classic Disney hardstyle theme song by Da Tweekaz. It’s lovely to bring two different worlds of EDM together under one “roof”. I also am a relatively fast mixer, so if you don’t like a specific track it’ll be over shortly – lol! I’m most proud of the friends I’ve made throughout the journey so far.

I’m proud of the confidence that I’ve created from all the nerve-racking appearances. Lastly, I’m proud of everyone I’ve inspired. It is incredible to watch someone grow from the ground up and create something of their own that they’re proud of too!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was big into sports. I played baseball, hockey, and golf. I was also a nerd and took school pretty seriously.

I didn’t have many “real” friends, but the ones I did have are still my friends today. I played the piano, guitar, and clarinet growing up as well. None of which I carried on into college. I regret not doing more with music while I was younger, but who was I to know I would walk down this road 8 years later?
