Meet Cassie Montgomery of New Germany, MN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Montgomery.

Hi Cassie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Montgomery Made Cookie Co. was born in the summer of 2023, shortly after my first baby turned one. I am a Minnesota native that had been transplanted to the Gulf Coast with my wonderful husband. I have always loved to bake and create anything artistic—painting, drawing, pottery and scrapbooking are just a few examples of ways I love filling my time! As a new mom, I really did not have a lot of time or energy to pour into my creative hobbies. However, after ordering adorable decorated sugar cookies from a local baker for my son’s first birthday, a spark was ignited when I thought to myself, “I NEED to try making these, they look so fun.”

My first attempts at making perfect sugar cookies that held their shape and royal icing that didn’t just run off the cookie were truly laughable, but after many hours of practice, I quickly improved and my cookie obsession began. I signed up for my first farmer’s market on a very hot Alabama day and the rest is history. My business quickly grew by word of mouth and I was fully enthralled in creating custom sugar cookies for just about every occasion. We moved back to Minnesota in the fall of 2024 and it has been a joy growing my business and meeting new clients over the past year.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finding a good work/life balance has been a challenge in growing my business. I absolutely LOVE baking and decorating cookies, but it does entail many, many late nights of decorating well into the early hours of the morning. Combined with two littles who do not quite sleep through the night (I now have a 3 year old and a 1 year old) it at times can feel difficult taking care of myself and my family while operating my business at the level I would like to.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
While I enjoy baking a wide array of items, I specialize and focus my business on decorated sugar cookies that are hand piped with royal icing. I am known for rather detailed and artistic sets. I create custom cookies for any and all occasions—weddings, birthdays, baby showers, wedding showers, work events, sporting events, galas, parties, and holidays. You name it and I have probably baked for it! I also enjoy partaking in the occasional farmer’s market as I love connecting with people and crafting a creative menu of goodies! Recently, I have started offering printed logo or photo cookies that are printed on my direct to food edible printer. This allows me to perfectly “cookify” a logo, photo or design!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I love connecting with and supporting other local bakers. Whether it be grabbing coffee and chatting about all things business, or attending other bakers’ markets or pop-up sales I think it is so important to find a support system in the industry.
