Meet Caty Brown of Soul Body Finesse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caty Brown.

Hi Caty, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For years, I was searching for something I couldn’t explain but knew I needed. I found it through sound healing, and that experience eventually became Soul Body Finesse. I started Soul Body Finesse in 2019 after relocating to Minneapolis from Los Angeles with my 2 and 3 year old. We came for a fresh start, to be closer to family, and to create a life that truly supported my family and me.

I discovered sound healing before our move while I was still living in Los Angeles. My first experience changed my life. I found myself again.

At the time, I was in a place of confusion and pain. I had started developing physical symptoms from compounding trauma. For years, I had tried different types of therapy and found that traditional talk therapy wasn’t helping me truly process and release what I had experienced. I still felt stuck. Sound healing gave me the lens to process everything I was going through from a place of calm and acceptance. It was in those moments of meditation and sound baths that I found my spark and my truth again.

It was the knowing I had after a session—that I was more than equipped to navigate whatever life brought, while finding peace with everything that had led me there. I accepted. I remembered the power of my values and actions.

Eventually, I realized I didn’t just want to keep this experience for myself—I wanted to create spaces where other people could discover it too.

I was blown away by how accessible and non-invasive this type of healing was. I’ve always loved music. I played in the orchestra for years as a kid, and many of my family members are musicians. So I started Soul Body Finesse with the belief that there were many people searching for this same type of relief—they just hadn’t discovered it yet.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think any roads are smooth. They twist and turn and dead end—sometimes new routes appear, you have to get creative, and sometimes you have to climb. Perseverance comes naturally when you are creating something you are passionate about. Faith is what allows you to enjoy it all—the moments, the laughter, and the lessons along the way.

I started my business after relocating to a new state and just before a surprise pandemic. Things shifted a lot from what I first imagined to what they became, and I wouldn’t change any of it.

As I settled here, I did what I could locally by offering sessions at yoga studios, mental health clinics, and through home visits. During the pandemic, I did what I could virtually, and once public restrictions lifted, I began hosting pop-up sound baths in the park. Seeing people come lay in the grass and simply receive sound in their own space—with no pressure to talk or interact—felt like the perfect re-entry into the world after so much isolation.

When I received my stimulus checks, I saved them and used them to open my first studio. Other than that, my business has been entirely self-funded, and there was a time when I relied on government assistance while building it. After every opportunity or event, I simply reinvested and kept going.

Those years taught me a lot about trust, service, and enjoying the process instead of getting caught up in every detail. There were months I was simply sustaining and others where I was losing money. Worry is natural, but I became a firm believer that when you invest in yourself, you never truly lose. If you keep building from a place of integrity, every experience teaches you something and moves you forward.

I couldn’t imagine doing anything else, so I kept going.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Soul Body Finesse has grown into a holistic wellness studio rooted in restorative care, nervous system regulation, and connection. Whether someone joins a weekly class, books a private session, attends a corporate retreat, or trains to become a sound healing facilitator, the intention is the same—to create a space where people can reconnect with themselves and the world around them.

After a couple of years of running the studio, people started asking how to learn to play these instruments, so I developed a training. So far, we have trained over 150 individuals and organizations in the art and facilitation of sound healing. Our students are taking it in so many different directions, into new spaces and new communities- it is incredibly exciting to watch. I love teaching and supporting others on their path of entrepreneurship, and it feels good to see how many opportunities there are for sound baths in Minneapolis now.

We also work with businesses and organizations to provide corporate wellness experiences and special events. Some teams come to our studio in Minneapolis for a session or day retreat, while others invite us to their location. We’ve facilitated sound baths at the zoo, dentist offices, schools and universities, churches, backyards, hotel conference rooms, sports complexes, and just about anywhere else you could imagine.

We also specialize in private group experiences for people looking to connect with their loved ones in meaningful ways. We celebrate birthdays, weddings, family gatherings, and friend get-togethers, while also providing support through life’s more difficult transitions, such as illness, loss, or grief. Sound healing offers a gentle way to calm the nervous system, reconnect with yourself, and experience that sense of grounding together. There is something really special about sharing that experience as a group.

As far as studio offerings, we host sound baths, yoga, meditation, breathwork, new and full moon gatherings, and restorative collaborations with other local practitioners featuring acupuncture, Thai bodywork, and Reiki. We offer public classes four to six days a week and private sessions seven days a week.

We also offer one-on-one Reiki and sound healing sessions, couples sessions, and personalized healing experiences. I am also a labor and birth doula, and we have another practitioner on staff who is an end-of-life doula. My hope is that, wherever someone finds us in their journey, they feel supported, seen, and reminded that healing can look many different ways, that our journeys are unique to us and that it can be empowering.

Any big plans?
Plans for the future are to remain open to it all. We offer such a wide variety of experiences, so it’s fun to notice the shifts in each season and watch the growth unfold.

This fall, we’ll be expanding our private care offerings with Thai bodywork and craniosacral therapy, creating even more opportunities for one-on-one support. We’ll also continue our specialty collaborations with other local businesses.

We’ll continue offering monthly sound healing trainings, our biannual past life regression training, and thoughtfully developing our Reiki practitioner training.

I hope Soul Body Finesse continues to become a place people think of whenever they need to reconnect with themselves—whether that’s through a weekly class, a difficult life transition, learning a new profession, or simply finding a moment of stillness. We look forward to continuing to provide restorative care in this busy, beautiful world.
