Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Reeves.
Hi Dan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I attended the Guitar Building and Repair program at Southeast Tech here in Red Wing and graduated in May 2017. Then worked at various guitar stores until 2019, when I decided to open my at-home repair and custom shop in Red Wing, Minnesota.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Challenges I’ve faced while getting my business started include balancing work and home life and building a clientele at the start.
We’ve been impressed with 509 Custom Guitar, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
509 Custom Guitar is a fretted instrument repair and custom wiring kit shop. Online sales have included wiring kits for guitarists or bassists to upgrade the electrical components in their instruments. We also offer instrument cables, effects pedals, and pedalboards and will soon start our line of custom-made electric guitars and basses.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Finding my dad’s old acoustic guitar in the closet and starting to play with it. Then becoming obsessed with music and guitars ever since.
