Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Ghandour.
Hi Elizabeth, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been attempting to be a singer in some way, shape or form since I was young. I started out training to sing classical art songs, then opera, which then moved to musical theater but, because of the dancing element, I ended up learning guitar and becoming a singer/songwriter, which is what I do now! I am the leader of a band, working on an awesome album plus videos and hoping to one day SOON make some money from it!!! And play lots of shows!!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Hell no! It’s been a rough go!! It’s a five-step forward, three-steps back kind of process. I have to constantly remind myself WHY I am doing this and also keep belief in myself throughout the struggle. I have been lucky recently to have supportive people in my corner. My mother (she supports in more ways than I’d like to admit) Mr. Gardner who has been a friend, therapist (unofficially) and financial supporter. Also, I was fortunate to connect with a fabulous Engineer/Producer, Jason Shannon at Zoo School Studios. He’s really made my vision of my sound come to fruition.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am writing from a frustrated female point of view. Rock music has seemed the most genuine way to express my feelings. I love to be brutally honest, even if I sometimes sound ridiculous in the process!! I want to be REAL. And angry. I want people to hear me and see me and say, “Hey, it’s okay I feel the way I do.” There is nothing to be ashamed of! And, it’s okay to be aggressive and to honestly express emotions even if they don’t follow the expected “good girl” vibe we (as women) are meant to portray.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If you believe in yourself, keep with it! There is this idea that we have an expiration date as singers and I think that’s not entirely true. We need to fight against that idea that if we don’t hit it big young then we never will. Art has no expiration date. Also, if you’re a BIG thinker, surround yourself with like-minded people. To do something BIG, you often have to believe in the impossible and there are going to be a lot of people along the way that says, ” you can’t do it. It can’t be done.”
