Today we’d like to introduce you to Elsay Yoder.
Hi Elsay, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello, my name is Elsay Yoder. Let me tell you a little about myself. I am a photographer and filmmaker and I was born in Duna, Ethiopia. When I was young my twin brother and I were adopted and moved to Minnesota. My adoptive family has been an incredible blessing to my life and I don’t know where I would be without them. I started getting into photography and filmmaking at just 10 years old. I have always loved taking videos and photos and since then, I have never stopped. From recording my family road trips & vlogs, to being executive editor of my school news program, and starting my own photography & filmmaking business… My passion for creating content has never faded. I believe it is something that will live in me forever, and I can’t wait to see how I progress as the years go on.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, I have had a lot of opportunities along the way and have had many people support me in my dreams. For that, I am extremely grateful. But I have worked very hard to create content in the good times and the bad times. Sometimes for me, wondering whether or not if what you’re creating or doing really matters can be a struggle. I have felt that before, and I have felt the effects of self comparison. It’s not fun or healthy and it’s something I work on and I believe many others do too.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently, I am a freelance photographer and filmmaker and I shoot everything. From the beautiful nature of our world, to the incredible candid moments of different events. I always strive to stay creative and not be confined to one subject with my photography and film work. My goal is to capture the world and share stories with my art. That being said, some of my favorite work comes from senior portraits, lifestyle shoots, and creative portrait photography. I also love creating creative cinematic films & comedy films. As well as promotion films for small businesses. At my school, I am known for my rewind videos for different clubs & teams. I strive to be different by creating an environment that makes people feel welcome and free to be themselves on a shoot. My goal is to capture your personality and represent who you are in the final product. With a quick turn around date, beautiful & engaging galleries/films, my business is the ideal choice for anyone.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
In my business, luck has played a role. But the connections I’ve made wouldn’t have happened without my willingness to better my work and myself. I believe there’s a big factor to mindset within business, and the people with a positive and hard working mindset typically reach their goals quicker than those who don’t care about their mindset. Taking risks, and saying yes to new, uncertain opportunities has helped me grow and it will continue to in the future. I am lucky to have met some supportive people, and people who help me reach my goals with honest feedback. My photography teacher at my highschool has made a difference with all the incredible opportunities he has given me. I am lucky to have met him. I believe the biggest factor that makes the most difference is my family. Their support, and love helps me to grow in my business, and life each day.
