Hi Erika, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into launching Northwoods Event Services, a wedding coordination service, has been an exciting and fulfilling one. It all began when I planned my own local wedding. As I immersed myself in the details and organization, I realized just how much I loved every aspect of the process. Then, my husband and I decided to expand our celebration with a destination wedding in Colorado, which led to planning two weddings in total. This experience gave me valuable insights into both local and destination wedding planning, sparking a deep passion for helping others create their perfect day.
Before transitioning into the wedding industry, I spent many years as a first responder. Helping people has always been a core part of who I am, and I bring that same problem-solving mindset and commitment to my wedding coordination. In early 2024, I began seriously considering turning my passion into a business, and by mid-year, Northwoods Event Services was born. Since then, I’ve been working hard to build connections in the industry while assisting couples in creating joyful, stress-free weddings.
What I love most about this work is being part of such a joyful moment in people’s lives. It’s incredibly fulfilling to help couples celebrate their love in a meaningful way, and I find so much joy in bringing their visions to life. It’s the perfect blend of my organizational skills and my passion for service, and I’m excited to continue creating unforgettable memories for couples as I grow Northwoods Event Services.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a completely smooth journey, but every challenge has taught me something valuable. One of the biggest hurdles has been building strong relationships with couples and vendors in such a competitive industry. Gaining trust and visibility for Northwoods Event Services has taken time, but I’m fully committed to nurturing those connections, and I’m starting to see the rewards of my hard work.
Another challenge has been balancing my work in public safety with growing my wedding coordination business. While public safety is a demanding field with unpredictable hours, I’ve learned to manage both careers with careful planning and time management. My commitment to my clients and passion for wedding coordination drives me to give my full attention to each aspect of my work. I’m dedicated to being there for your special day and ensuring everything runs smoothly, no matter what.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The most important quality to my success has been genuineness. I truly care about the couples I work with and want to ensure their wedding day is everything they’ve dreamed of. I make an effort to connect with each couple on a personal level, understanding their vision, style, and what’s most important to them. That genuine care helps build trust and makes the planning process feel less stressful.
Additionally, my ability to stay calm under pressure has been essential. With my background in public safety, I’ve learned how to manage unexpected challenges with a clear head, ensuring the couple’s day goes off without a hitch. When you approach every wedding with authenticity and a calm demeanor, it creates an atmosphere of confidence and comfort for everyone involved.
