Hi Erika, Janalee, and Laura, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Dahlia Row Floral Studio is a partnership of three diverse women: Laura, Janalee, and Erika, who have a love for all things floral! These three had been spending time with floral arranging, solo, for several years prior to the intentional business efforts of Dahlia Row. Laura, who is the common thread between the three, was getting get her hair done by her favorite hairstylist in Detroit Lakes, Janalee. During the conversation, it was brought up that Janalee wanted to do wedding flowers more seriously. Since Laura has a love for flowers and a floral design educational background, she was interested in this business adventure. About a week later Laura heard Erika’s heart for wanting to pursue wedding flowers more intentionally during a prayer night at church. Shortly after, a meeting was set! That first night it did not even seem like there was a question of “if” they were doing this business it was “when” were they starting!
What’s with the name? Discussions and ideas were thrown out at the first meeting. And more ideas flowed into meetings 2 and 3. Dahlia’s are a common love for all 3 designers/owners showing up in all their gardens! And the studio is most fitting for their private space. Dahlia Row Floral Studio is a perfect fit to describe the business.
Their design styles are varied offering a fit for every client.
Janalee’s design style is subtle yet bold, trendy yet thoughtful and pushes the look just enough to make a statement.
Laura’s design style is easy to notice as natural and airy, finding design in the organic and simple.
Erika’s design style is traditional with touches of delicate, sweet, and thoughtful intention.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a pretty smooth road so far to get up and running. It definitely helps overhead costs that we do not have a retail space and all the loans and paperwork that goes along with that. Maybe one day, but for now it is working well to have a private studio.

We are known for our diversity since there are three creative women all with different design styles, we’re confident to offer a fit for every client.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
We love that Detroit Lakes is a very supportive and close-knit community. In small towns, word travels fast, so that has been an advantage to get our name out there. There’s not as much competition and in fact, the owner of one of the major floral shops in town contacted us, she wanted our business cards so if there were clients she had to turn away she would send our way! She is so sweet! That’s the best kind of relationship you can have with other business owners, one that helps each other out to succeed. The other advantage of our city is that it is a wedding destination. We’re in beautiful lakes country and there are a lot of wedding venues in the area. You can’t beat a Minnesota Lake wedding!
We’re located in the heart of lakes country which means we play hard in the summer and hunker down for the other 7 months!
What we like least about our city is that we have in some years 7 months of winter! So our busy months are typically when we want to enjoy the summer days, but there are getting to be more winter and fall weddings, and we love creating beautiful floral arrangements for those seasons also.
