Meet Felicia Bergman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Felicia Bergmann.

Hi Felicia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Felicia Bergmann and I have been in the beauty industry for over 20+ years. As a young girl, I grew up with something called Alopecia Areata. I was always so sad that I did not have hair of my own to do, so I would always ask my friends if I could do their hair and by doing that, it always made me feel so good inside that I could make someone else feel good by doing their hair. After High school, I went on to get a Cosmetology license at the Aveda institute in Minneapolis. I received my advanced training at Jon English Salon Uptown then I went on to work at one of the top Salon spas called Estetica in Saint Paul on Cathedral Hill there I became an educator as well as a L’Oréal educator. In 2006 I opened a salon in West St Paul. We closed after the market crashed in 2009. I then decided to spend more time with kids while doing hair behind the chair a couple of times a month as well as continuing to educate for L’Oréal. During the pandemic, I felt strongly about getting back into the industry whole heartily. I have a true heart for education and coaching new stylists to become the best version of themselves as a stylist. My salon is called Culture Salon. It is a small beautiful space with 6 stations. In my Salon Company, “We embrace and empower cultures of beauty through the language of hair”.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Opening the salon during the pandemic hasn’t been easy. From hiring to getting the community to receive us in the Edina area has been pretty hard.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a multicultural salon in the Edina area. We offer services to everyone from curls to straight to extensions and coloring hair.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I feel that our industry is one of the industries where we get to have person-to-person contact And get to know people on a personal level. Some of the biggest shifts in our industry is People have been learning to embrace and love the textures given to them as well as hair extensions. Many stylists are going to need to be well-versed and trained in all hair types and hair enhancements or they will miss a huge market.
