Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Plonsky.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello! I am Hannah, I am a Wedding and Couples photographer, and on the occasion, I get to capture seniors, families and other creative shoots. I’m based out of Le Sueur, MN, a tiny river town in southern Minnesota, but I love to travel! I started photography at a young age, I photographed objects, people, and of course, I was the one that was constantly taking photos to remember the fun moments. In 2017, I bought my first Canon Rebel and I was off to the races. I had never shot on a “professional camera” I only had been exploring my phone and what it was capable of doing, so this was a whole new adventure! I started taking photos of my son and slowly learned the in’s and out’s of the camera. It was until 2020, until I really dove into couples and weddings. I booked my first micro backyard wedding and let me tell you, IT WAS MAGIC. I knew this was exactly what I wanted to do. Over the next few years, I was creating the basics of my business and shot here and there, as my business was still new. I had been listening to a TON of podcasts on photography, and I will always remember this podcaster that changed my life forever. Her name is Brooke, and she kept talking about needing to surrender your business to God. At first, I didn’t understand, as my faith had been estranged, but when 2022 hit, I told myself that this was going to be the year I found my faith and surrendered my business to God. I began praying and really dove into letting God know that I was letting him take the lead and that my business wasn’t up to me anymore, and that I will follow his guidance. After I did that, everything was clear. I began researching everything I could, I spent countless hours watching Youtube videos and learning about my camera inside and out. Ever since then, I have been incredibly blessed by the Lord. I have shot dream weddings, worked with the most wonderful clients, and had so much fun with my business. Today, I’m running a 5 figure business where I can work my dream job and create lasting relationships by capturing my clients in their season of life.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been relatively smooth! I would say the hardest part of becoming a photographer with a photography business was learning all of the different avenues of running a small business, getting the systems in place and managing the business. As for support, everyone around me has always been the biggest cheerleader and has encouraged me throughout my journey, and for that, I am extremely grateful.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in weddings and couples, they are my bread and butter! I absolutely love being a part of one of the biggest days of someone’s lives, and documenting it as it unfolds! Your wedding should be fun and beautiful, not stressful at all! In the off-season, I love to capture seniors and various other shoots. Sometimes I get to do creative shoots for example, with River Valley Dance Co., which is always absolutely amazing for me to flex a different creative muscle and to capture the dancers, in their free flowing movements.
I am most proud of the pride I take in my work, every single photo I take and deliver is edited to perfection and I put my heart and soul into each gallery. I believe that photos are the main avenue that people have to remember a specific time in their life, so when I deliver a gallery everything I have, goes into making sure that core memory is preserved!
I believe what sets me apart from other, is my shooting style. I am a documentary-styled photographer, where I like to capture the moments that happen when you least expect it. My galleries consist of the outtakes, the raw, and “unedited” moments, where my clients are simply being themselves.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I am a one “woman” show here, as I don’t have other team members, but my family has been my cheerleaders from day 1. They have always encouraged me to continue to shoot and expand my education on my business. They genuinely get excited for me when I send them my favorite gallery photos. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them!
