Meet Heather Boschke of Vogel Venture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Boschke.

Hi Heather, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I’m a Midwest born and raised child of the 80s passionate about a life well lived, helping other women rise and win, and creating my own rules for success.

I first fell in love with marketing in an undergrad marketing course when the professor explained how marketing touches everything we see, do, and experience. A switch I didn’t even know I had turned to “on”, and I knew that marketing was my future. After spending 20 years in the corporate world, I worked for a small non-profit and was able to quickly make a difference in how they showed up in the market with a new brand look, updated website, and fresh marketing and communications strategy. Not only did the work elevate the brand outwardly, but a shift started to happen internally as well with a sense of renewed pride and excitement for the organization. That experience made me realize how much I enjoyed helping smaller organizations in a meaningful way by implementing the best practices and processes I’ve learned through my experience working for various organizations across many industries.

I’ve been an adjunct professor at Metro State since 2008 teaching an undergrad marketing course, where I hope to generate the type of lightbulb moments that were created for me when I was first introduced to marketing. While my professional experience is the cornerstone of my success as an instructor, working with students and helping them make a connection to the impact and potential of marketing is the reason I look forward to every new semester.

I am married and have a 15-year-old yorkie/pomeranian fur baby, and I draw birds as a creative outlet. You can see my bird drawings by visiting www.buddhabirdie.com. I’m a recovering perfectionist trying every day to embrace this one life by redefining success on my terms through chasing moments of meaning and connection.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey of entrepreneurship has been one of deep self-discovery. From setting (or failing to set) boundaries, learning to listen to my gut, and understanding the type of work I enjoy most – I am getting to know myself in a new way. Shifting from an employee mindset to an owner mindset is also quite the perspective change, and it’s a rewarding challenge to be involved with all of the aspects and details of a business. And while it’s been fun, freeing, and satisfying in so many ways, the loneliness is real! I took for granted the fact that I don’t have coworkers in the same way anymore, and so finding and building a network of other business owners I can learn from and be inspired by is so important. The weight of a business succeeding or failing as a direct result of my actions adds a different type of pressure… yet the ability for me to make decisions, choose my work, and how I show up has given me a freedom that I didn’t even know I needed.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I created Vogel Venture in 2021 with the mission to help small and mid-sized organizations drive growth and engagement by leveraging marketing fundamentals while creating momentum through storytelling backed by data. The name Vogel means bird in German, which speaks to my heritage as well as my strategic (bird’s eye) approach combined with tactical planning.

Vogel Venture is a strategic marketing consulting business providing flexible marketing services to help organizations level up their marketing, optimize communication and increase brand presence to drive engagement and growth. From fractional leadership to strategy sessions and project based work, we meet organizations where they are and move them forward.

If an organization needs marketing strategy, content development, and communications improvement, we provide marketing leadership and strategic direction paired with tactical planning to help make the most of marketing efforts regardless of team size. Our approach is rooted in understanding your business and customer, and putting foundational and sustainable marketing elements in place.

Just because a company doesn’t have a big marketing budget doesn’t mean they can’t effectively captivate and engage customers in way that creates loyalty and sustains growth.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Starting my own business was never really the plan, and it was through listening to the signs of the universe that I decided to lean into this new professional adventure. So getting quiet through meditation and paying attention to internal and external nudges has been instrumental in where I am today. Podcasts like 10 Percent Happier (Dan Harris) and books like The Four Agreements (Don Miguel Ruiz) have helped me gain perspective and be more kind to myself. The biggest realization I’ve had is that no one really has anything figured it out and we’re all making it up as we go. Oftentimes we let our insecurities or other people’s opinions of us keep us trapped in a box and prevent true growth from happening. Challenging my comfort zone and realizing that every life is a unique experiment has helped me take more risks and be less concerned if things don’t work out as planned… because that is exactly where the magic happens!
