Meet Jane Swanson Campbell of St. Paul

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Swanson Campbell.

Hi Jane, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My husband and I got Winston when he was a few months old. We fell in love immediately with our cute little puppy and started photographing his every move. I started Winston’s social media accounts a few weeks after I lost my job. Recording Winston was a much-needed creative outlet for me in between the tedious job application process. Filming him became a normal part of our day; he loves the camera, and the camera loves him! We have met many new friends by joining the pet parent community online. Taking Winston to various places around the Twin Cities is our favorite thing. Winston loves exploring parks, lakes, dog-friendly breweries, and restaurants! Working on his social media has been a rewarding experience in using my creative side. Winston has been on social media in a relatively short time, and we have loved collaborating with other small businesses to promote pet products. We can’t wait to see where this creative venture leads us in the future.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a smooth road?
Growing Winston’s social media presence is lots of fun and also has some challenges. While filming him may be easy, some days, putting together a video can be challenging. There are times when creating new content flows easily. On the other hand, as any creator knows, there are those times when the ideas don’t come as easily. Sometimes scrolling your feed for inspiration can spark ideas, but other times putting down the phone and taking a break is most helpful.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a recent graduate with a master of public health degree. My specialty is community health sciences. My passion is working with diverse populations to improve community health. Community health includes so many factors in our environment, such as convenient access to places to exercise, access to affordable, nutritious food, and safe neighborhoods. I have experience working with food justice projects, including managing a community garden and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. My most recent position involved working as a COVID-19 Case Investigator. Using the creative side of my brain in building Winston’s social media accounts has been a light-hearted contrast to the serious issues of community health.
