Meet Jenita Pace of Three Rivers Counseling, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenita Pace.

Hi Jenita , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In the year 2000 I went through a mental health crisis, one that I never thought I would go through. After struggling with depression and anxiety for months, I attempted to take my own life. I ended up in a psychiatric hospital for two weeks. It was a very hard time, and I struggled to find a therapist that I trusted. I finally got into an out patient program and made strides to become healthy. Over time, I learned how to manage my mental health and ten years later, decided I wanted to become a therapist so I could help others face the challenges I had faced. I applied and got accepted to the program at Western Carolina University where I graduate with a MA. Ed in School Counseling, but was additional licensed for private practice. I now have my own private practice in Burnsville, where I am able to help people going through the difficulties I faced years ago. I have also had the opportunity to have a book published that is a daily devotional to give people spiritual support who need hope, as well as teaching college classes at the University of Northwestern. It has been incredible to see my story come full circle and be able to help others who need the support.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There are sometimes challenges, like building up clientele cane take time, as well as growing as a trusted part of the therapy community. It’s also a new frontier in learning how to run a business when your training didn’t include any type of classes that gave you the wisdom to do so!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a counselor who specializes in helping people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and trauma. I also work with teenagers since the beginning of my career involved helping high school and college students. I am set apart because of my own journey with mental health: other counselors tend not to have had their own story of a suicide attempt and going through the healing journey on that level. Because of that, my book has been a tool that many people have said bring them hope, “Healing Names of Jesus, Find Freedom from Depression and Anxiety.” I also am featured on a number of podcasts and have two devotionals published on YouVersion. It’s been such an incredible journey, seeing the amount of response I have gotten from people struggling.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think with the invention of AI offering “counseling” people have begun turning for advice from other sources than counseling. It is a concern that I have, since there is so much healing that happens just in sitting with another person, talking about their needs and their story. I think people will cheat themselves out of the value of going to meet with a counselor in person; though the people have done so and had a positive experience advocate that they would not give that opportunity up. I believe counselors will struggle to have people not turn to AI in the future.
