Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Helling.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been in the hair industry for about four years, but my interest in hair started a long time ago. I always loved going to the hair salon when I was younger and watching my hair stylist work. When I was in high school my mom would let me cut and color her hair, I remember having so much fun with that. Once I worked a job as a receptionist at a men’s hair salon, that is when I really knew exactly what I wanted to do as a career. I immediately sent in my application to cosmetology school. After graduating I worked at a really great salon for a few years building up my confidence and skill set. My goal was always to have my own business, and that is exactly what I did in March of 2022. I moved into a suite and started my own LLC, Clipper Over Comb MN.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Leaving a salon where I was established, and moving to a new location and creating a business for myself means I would be losing clients. I knew this would be the case. This just meant that I would need to create focus on marketing and work on rebuilding my client base. I am so thankful for my husband who has been so supportive and motivating for me throughout this big change in my life.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a men’s hair specialist! I range in haircuts from buzzcuts to longer “hockey hair”, and everything in between. Clipper cuts, and bald fades are probably my favorite if I’d have to choose though! Every guy in my chair gets the option of a head and neck massage with a hot stone and lavender massage oil to start their service. After the haircut, I finish the service with shampoo and a hot towel for the face before your style. I feel as though guys need to get pampered too, and before a haircut is a perfect time for that!
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My clients matter the most to me. I want to make sure that they feel heard while they’re in my chair. It’s one thing to make their hair look better, but I want to make sure that they feel better leaving my salon as well.
