Meet Jesse Sage of Sage Cleaning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Sage.

Hi Jesse, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve had an interest in business/entrepreneurship since a young age. Started my first “business” around the age of 16, I was selling poorly designed t-shirts. From there it has been working for the man, having my own business again, running my dad’s business for a couple of years, back to working for the man, and ending back in entrepreneurship at the age of 31. Through the years there has definitely been struggles and breakdowns. With each downfall, I learned to grow and become better, stronger and wiser. Creating today a new kind of company. Taking care of employees and community first, letting the rest fall into place. A place where people will be proud to let people know where they work.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No journey in life is ever smooth. You may have smooth parts of the ride, however, in this long journey of life you are bound to hit some bumps. My first true business didn’t start until I was 19 years old. At this point, I purchased a carpet cleaning van and started my own branch of my dad’s business. I was fortunate to have an easier start up than most, as my dad would feed me jobs he didn’t want or was too busy for. However, I still learned a lot on my own, from taking care of customers needs, answering phones and scheduling, to running the books. At the age of 22, the company was presented an offer to move to California, to work at a large chain of retirement homes. I was young enough that after a business trip to check the locations, I was packing my bags, loading up a truck, taking a friend to work with me and moving to Cali. First month of this trip was rough. Not only were we living out of my friend’s toyhauler trailer, with his dirt bike in the back, parked in the back of one of the retirement homes. After a few weeks of sales and not as much of a work load as we were promised, my friend packed his belongings, took his trailer and headed back home to Seattle. I was able to find an apartment and business eventually picked up.

After a year in Cali, I missed family and decided to move back home to Seattle. At that time I ran my dad’s business for a couple of years. In that time realizing my dad and I aren’t the best business partners. In the end walking away from his business.

We’ve been impressed with Sage Cleaning, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Simply put, our business offers professional carpet, upholstery, tile and grout cleaning. Our mission is to build a community involved business by actively creating local job opportunities, giving back to the local community and creating a world class business. Breaking that down we would start with actively creating local job opportunities. Sage Cleaning LLC isn’t a company that just anyone will be able to get a job at. Our goal is to create a team that all strive to reach not only our own goals, but the goals of the company as well. Part of that being giving back to the local community, which is the next part of our mission. Sage Cleaning enjoys being active in our communities. So in nature, we like to make sure they’re taken care of. As a company, we like to sponsor local events, volunteer in needed areas and be active at different events. Last part of our mission is creating a WORLD CLASS business. This means we want to set new standards in the cleaning industry. Making sure our equipment stays clean, our scheduling stays neat and our personnel stays looking professional. Always creating a world class experience for our customers. We make sure to take our time with every job, not missing out on any of the small details. Protecting your home and the belongings in it.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
