Today we’d like to introduce you to Jody Maier.
Hi Jody, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Two friends, Jody Maier and Joesph Jurgensmier, share a passion for creating evocative flavors, and creating welcoming community. They are also passionate about Lake Superior and its lands. All of this was able to come together when a shop on the Cornucopia harbor became available. The building originally was utilized for commercial fish cleaning operations. Today locally sourced fish, and as many ingredients as practical, are cooked in the building. Cornucopia is a fishing village. We are proud to honor the Lake, the catch, and all those that labor with delicious foods.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Neither business partner had previous kitchen industry experience. That created a steep curve of learning that often felt like a scramble. Building renovation was resource intensive. Getting the word out so our guests can find us.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are known for fresh, baked fish featured in sandwiches, tacos, and protein bowls. Our cooking style is reminiscent of Louisianna-style flavors. Food is prepared and cooked fresh daily.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Running through the river lands near our house.
