Meet Judd Sather

Today we’d like to introduce you to Judd Sather.

Hi Judd, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Judd Sather Photography is the signature brand of Studio J, Inc. Judd, a former high school math teacher and coach, has been shooting weddings and portraits since 2000. His studio in downtown Stillwater has been renovated to become The Loft at Studio J, a “Top 10 Unique Event Spaces in Minnesota.” In 2016, JX Event Venue was created just two blocks away from Studio J to cater to weddings and events for up to 720 guests. Emily Tweed is Judd’s sister and the director of events at both venues that host over 250 events per year.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Covid was a huge struggle with fear and Emily had to reschedule 150 weddings.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are known for upscale photography and upscale venues coupled with a laid-back and comfortable approach to both.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Stillwater is becoming more of a Rivertown mini-destination for people now that the lift bridge is closed to traffic. Retail stores have given way to an amazing collection of restaurants, hotels, and entertainment.

Pricing:

  • Loft starts around $3500 for weddings
  • JX starts around $5500 for weddings
  • Both venues start around $100/hour for corporate meetings
