Meet Kamisha Johnson of Golden Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamisha Johnson

Hi Kamisha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a therapist by education. I started Individual therapy in Savage, MN around 2014. During this time, I was seeing a lot of women in therapy that were dealing with Heartwounds, I grew a passion to support women in healing heartwounds through therapy, speaking engagements and eventually healing circles. As time passed, I found my practice transforming and also fell in love with Reiki, drumming, sing bowls, yoga and meditation. I later found myself curating spaces for marginalized communities to heal OUR way. I learned to incorporate various healing modalities when I had events, and this just catapult my love for community and a deep desire to help healing my community. When George Floyd was lynched, I closed my therapy practice in Savage, MN. I decided I would go to where My People needed me. North, South Minneapolis or 38th in Chicago in South Minneapolis. I knew I had a new call on my journey, and I must be obedient. I was recognized by the Star Tribune for my efforts in assisting the community in healing during such a traumatic time. During the Chauvin Trial I created MishaMagic Hour and every week I would get on my platform and give a sound bath and guidance on healing through such a tragic time. Today, I spend most of my time assisting youth that have been sexually exploited and working with educators and youth workers. My full-time job is for The County where I work as a Family Group Decision Making Facilitator. I am a neutral party to child protection. I bridge the gap between families and Child Protection.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Economic Justice is a big challenge for us in the healing community. There were many times along my journey, I curated space for free. Alot of people from marginalized communities do not have access to the type of healing modalities that I offer. So I would just ask for a love offering. Now, due to being more experienced and have created a name for myself. Most time I am fairly compensated for my gifts. However, it is a reason why I keep a “9-5.”The pay for different healing modalities is not equitable.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a conduit of healing. I assist people in navigating their trauma and pain. We visit these realities; however, we do not stay there. I assist them in unlearning/ relearning new ways to love themselves, set boundaries and just really be a person on their healing journey. We cannot lie to ourselves; we have to go with ourselves at night and sit with our thoughts. I assist in self-accountability, affirmations, self-reflection and understanding you have sovereignty over your life. You can begin, again as many times as you need to. What sets me apart, is that I allow people to fall apart with me. We can go to the deepest, darkest places of your journey and I am going to assist you to find the light. In my life guidance sessions may include narrative medicine (of course), reiki, sound bath, smoke purification for cleansing energy, drumming and maybe a pull of oracle cards for more insight. It just all depends on where Spirit takes us. I am proud of all the Souls I have assisted on this journey. Many of them give me my flowers often. I see many of them doing so well and that is rewarding.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
There is no guide, lol. You have to be confident that it will work. Guess what? If it does not work, learn, find your missteps and try again more wiser. Millionaires did not get it right there first try. It took a few failures to get to the successes. Do not wait for somebody to save you, You most believe you can save yourself. Every human has talents, gifts and abilities right on the inside of them. It is your duty to tap into them.
