Today we’d like to introduce you to Kasey Asmus.
Hi Kasey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Thank you so much for having me! If you would’ve told my parents when I was 10 years old that I would grow up and run my own makeup business, they would have laughed in your face! I was not a little girl who loved makeup. I loved sports and that was about it!
Fast forward to college, I got hired at Ulta Beauty as a beauty advisor – I knew close to nothing about makeup at this point and was a broke college student who needed a job.
Through working at Ulta, I grew fascinated with makeup. I loved how it changed how people felt about themselves when they wore it, and I was immediately drawn to that. I really have my friends and family to thank for how my business started. About 7 years ago I did my very first wedding makeup on my friend Jennie. From there, my family and friends really pushed me to pursue makeup. I dabbled for the first few years and five years ago I turned it into a business that is booming and that I am so proud of. To all of my friends and family who got me here, thank you SO much!!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a fairly smooth road to where I am today, and I truly believe that is because this business is solely word of mouth. My clients recommend me to their friends, who recommend me to their friends, etc. I have been lucky to have amazing clients who are more than willing to write me a review, share pictures, and recommend me.
Some struggle that I have found is saying no. It absolutely would crush me to turn down a bride but I also respect my time with my family and have to put that in the forefront as well as the fact that I do have a full-time job as a Special Education teacher. I have also learned that balance and organization are key!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Freelance Makeup Artist from New Ulm, MN. I specialize in Wedding makeup but also do makeup for engagement pictures, family pictures, photoshoots, galas, prom, and any special occasions! I am most known for my bridal makeup looks and that is what I am most proud of! I absolutely love helping people feel stunning for their special days!
When wedding morning comes and clients enter my chair, I love feeling like we are already friends because the atmosphere of a wedding day morning is just unbeatable and so fun. It is my number one goal to make sure that whoever sits in my chair feels comfortable, safe, without judgment and leaves feeling beautiful, confident, and happy and they can’t wait to get their makeup done again! I truly care about each and every person who I do makeup for even if we only spend 15 minutes together, and that is the mark that I want to leave behind my business.

- Prom makeup $60
- Makeup lessons are $100/hour
