Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Meier
Kate, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Years ago when I started Craftmade aprons, I knew I wanted to do something bigger. Since I have 4 kids that have all been in the service industry throughout the years, I wanted to support the industry more than just providing a great product. Over the years as I have met more and more individuals from the industry, I have learned how great the need is and how broad the needs can be. I wanted to start a foundation that will be the true net for the industry. I wanted to be able to catch and support everyone in whatever way they would need to help them feel seen. So, to go beyond mental and physical health, we are able to provide support with things like rent, shoes, car payments, anything that could be needed in addition to physical and mental health. I know it can take only one difficult situation to be life altering so we want to fill that gap.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting Help the House has been smoother than expected! We are so fortunate to have a loyal following who have been ready to jump at supporting in any way possible! Our 3 chef advocates have been incredibly supportive, Nettie, JD, and Yia, have been such a great team. Right now, we are at a point where we have plenty of nominations and are looking for all the ways to raise funds to help support as many individuals as possible.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a woman owned business that started to support my children in their passion. The company blossomed when we saw a need for a high-quality apron that has unique designs so chefs, bartenders, servers can express themselves! When we were designing our standard design, we would give our prototypes to chefs in different settings like restaurants, catering, and food trucks to give us feedback on what works and what doesn’t. We are truly made for the industry by the industry! We extended this same product testing with our chef coats, knife rolls, and all the other products coming down the pipeline. We are truly proud of our quality of fabric and reliability of our product.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We hope our biggest impact is inspiring those around us to support one another. Whether it’s something small or something big, we want to create a culture within this community that is centered around support!
