Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylee LaMoine.
Hi Kaylee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’ve had a camera in my hand for as long as I can remember. I was that friend in high school and college who always had a digital camera with them and was constantly filming and photographing everything I could. I loved creating something out of nothing, and then, watching my friends and family’s reactions to what I had created, I fell in love with it. I filmed my first wedding in 2013. I didn’t even ask my friend’s permission; I just told her I would film her wedding, and she said okay. Assuming she and everyone else thought I’d have a camera on a tripod and just capture the wedding old-school style. When I delivered the final product, she was so obsessed that we watched the video about 17 times that night. Over and over again. I was so addicted to her reaction, and how much she loved what I had created that from then on, all I wanted to do was capture and create big, small, and detailed moments in between. When I started doing wedding videography, it wasn’t really “a thing” yet, so my name, what I was doing, the quality of my work, etc., spread like wildfire. Since starting back in 2013, I have filmed over 200 weddings. A few years ago, I transitioned out of filming weddings, and now I work with brands and businesses on all different levels and scales. Over 10 years, my business has grown from a side hustle into a full-service six-figure video production company, and I couldn’t be more proud of myself.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It most definitely has been a challenging road. Being an entrepreneur comes with so many challenges. Especially in the beginning, you wear a lot of hats. Burnout is a real thing. On top of being the videographer and photographer, I was also the editor, the marketer, the accountant, etc. It’s a lot to handle, and navigating how to handle it all takes time. So give yourself grace.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
Kaylee LaMoine Film Co. is a video production company that specializes in creating epic video production for ambitious brands, small businesses, and, specifically, female entrepreneurs. I’m very proud of all the work that I’ve done. Some more considerable name-brand work has been with companies like Prada and Lululemon. Still, I also love working with brands in the beginning stages of their business and looking to grow that business with excellent visual storytelling. My personality and the energy I bring to every project sets me apart from other creatives. Being in front of a camera is uncomfortable for most people, so I try to bring a relaxed and chill vibe to the shoot and make it fun. Content days shouldn’t be something people dread; they should be fun.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
- Apps: In business, my favorite app is called “Milanote,” which is basically like a giant whiteboard where I can create storyboards, collect inspiration for projects, write down ideas, etc.
- Podcasts: We can do hard things, The diary of a CEO, and the Refund.
- Books: I recently finished “The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work And What To Do About It” by Michael E. Gerber, which was very insightful, and on a more personal level, I recently finished “The Mountain Is You: Transforming Self-Sabotage Into Self-Mastery” by Brianna Wiest, which was also excellent.
