Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Kapaun.
Hi Kelsey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my career in cosmetology in 2005, after taking a year off after high school I wasn’t quite sure what to do. With the push of my mom, she suggested trying beauty school, I always had an interest in the beauty industry so I gave it a try! I immediately loved everything about it!! After I graduated from beauty school I got a job at a fast pace chain salon. I was a stylist for about 5 years and then became a salon manager. After managing a salon of 15 girls for about 10 years it was time to change things up. At the end of 2020, I thought it would be a perfect time to start my own business. I have been renting my own salon suite now for 1 1/2 years and couldn’t be happier
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
In the 16 years, I have been doing hair there have definitely been some ups and downs. Starting out in my career working mostly nights and every weekend- even Sundays. Working in a fast pace salon I also was double booked most of my shifts, very exhausting. There were times I thought I didn’t want to be in this career anymore because I was getting burnt out. With the support of my family, friends and clients they have all been my biggest cheerleader! I’m very grateful for all of my clients who followed me and supported me through my entire career so far! If I didn’t have them I wouldn’t be able to do what I’m doing right now!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My passion is definitely haircuts and colors! Blondes are probably my favorite!! I love trying out different foiling patterns, and toners and seeing the end result! Thankfully I have my sisters to let me try anything on their hair! Haircuts I love as well. Seeing the result immediately is just amazing. I’ve also been really into bridal hair in the last few years and always have so much with that.
