Hi Kristy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
How I Got Into Laser Hair Removal & Opened My Business – As a teenager, I struggled with the embarrassment of unwanted body hair—along with the constant reminder of razor burn and ingrown hairs. I vividly remember thinking, “If I could change one thing about my body, it would be to never worry about body hair again.”
In my early 20s, I tried laser hair removal for the first time. At that time, the technology was far more uncomfortable, and I wasn’t able to complete my treatments. Fast forward to my early 30s, I was determined to try again. I scheduled laser hair removal appointments in Maple Grove, traveling over three hours each way, hopeful that this time I could see it through.
I completed monthly treatments for an entire year—and the transformation was life-changing. The confidence I felt, especially during the summer months, and the freedom from razor burn, ingrown hairs, and daily shaving left a lasting impression on me.
At age 36, as I transitioned from being a stay-at-home mom to searching for a career that truly energized and fulfilled me, those memories resurfaced. I realized I wanted to give others the same confidence, freedom, and satisfaction I had experienced through laser hair removal.
Shortly after this “aha” moment, I enrolled at the MedSpa Institute of America in Edina, Minnesota (now located in Bloomington), where I completed my Laser Technician Certification. After graduating, I applied to the only local business offering laser hair removal at the time, but they were not hiring. That’s when I told my husband, “I’m going to open my own laser hair removal business.” With his encouragement and support—as a fellow small business owner—we took the leap.
One year after the idea was born, I opened The Laser Skin Studio, LLC, initially operating from my home while awaiting the completion of my current location. Today, I’m grateful to be established at M Salon, alongside Mrs. Sippi Non-Alcoholic Bottle Shop, surrounded by inspiring women, a supportive community, and incredible clients!
I am truly thankful for every client who trusts me with their journey—and it’s an honor to help others feel confident, comfortable, and empowered in their own skin.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a windy road-but it has been a very supported one. I quickly learned that building a business means surrounding yourself with the right people. I leaned on experts in areas outside my expertise—attorney, accountant, marketing professionals, software and laser specialists, and trusted friends. Each person played a role in helping move the business forward, and that collaboration made all the difference!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Laser Skin Studio specializes primarily in laser hair removal, while also offering treatments in removal of sun spots & vascular lesions, diffuse redness, and wrinkle reduction. I am able to safely and effectively treat all skin types with minimal discomfort. Treatments are quick, results-driven, and typically require a series of sessions for optimal outcomes, along with future maintenance sessions as needed.
What I love most is the transformation—both physical and emotional—along with meeting new people and helping clients feel confident in their skin. Every appointment is provided in a comfortable, welcoming, and completely no-judgment environment!
