Meet Lindsey Nelson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Nelson.

Hi Lindsey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My love for photography started in 2010 when I took a photography class in high school. I continued taking pictures for fun whenever I could for friends and family. I had no intention of starting a photography business. It was just something I did for fun. After shooting a friend’s wedding in 2018, I knew I needed to go all in. I started doing sessions, posting on social media and asking friends if they need photos taken. Something I thought would take years to cultivate seemed to grow exponentially over a year. By word of mouth and referrals, it grew to 20 weddings last year, a handful of amazing seniors and countless family sessions.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been as smooth as anyone who owns/starts a business hopes it can be. That can be attributed to an amazing support system and amazing clients. Don’t get me wrong. There are always hurdles and things to learn. Work/life balance for instance is one thing that I know I struggle with. It can be hard to step away, even for a weekend, from something that you put your heart and soul into. I feel lost and anxious if I go anywhere without my camera in fear that I might “miss something.”

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love capturing warm, authentic moments in photo form. I specialize in weddings and family sessions, which gives me the pleasure of walking through life with so many wonderful people. My favorite place to shoot is in the outdoors as it is a beautiful backdrop to help frame my beautiful clients.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I am just so thankful to have such amazing clients. Some of them have truly become friends and it just fills my heart with joy. As a business moving forward, I would love to expand my services into mentorships for new photographers who want to learn how to use their cameras or just for people who want to be able to take nice photos of their kids and family. I would also love to get into product photography for businesses.
