Meet MAK

Today we’d like to introduce you to MAK.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born to two Haitian parents, my mother who is now a citizen has been raising my siblings and I by herself as a single mother. My father passed away from cancer when I was about 15 years old. I am the oldest out of 4 children in my home so I had to step up and be a father figure and the man of the house at a young age. I started writing music about 5 years ago shortly after giving my life to Christ. In between all of that, I also graduated with my physical therapy assistant degree. I recently came out with an EP in July of 2021 called “No Man” and have released a single “I’ve Been Loved” this year and plan to release more music. I have goals of pursuing music as a career, starting my own clothing brand, and also starting up my own physical therapy business in the near future.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Going through school was tough enough as it is. Had to deal with a lot of death along the way like my father, stepfather, friends, family friends and most recently my aunt passed away from cancer. I am recently divorced so things happen in life. Through it all, God got me through it and I’ve been in good spirits taking every challenge head on.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an artist. I make clean hip-hop music that I hope relates to a lot of people in different ways. When it comes to music I guess you can say I specialize in writing. Other than that I also have a degree in physical therapy assistant. That would have to be one of the accomplishments I’m most proud of. I am one of the first people in my final to go to college and come out with a degree in something. What sets me apart from others is that I’m a Christian who understands people, love talking to everybody, want to see everybody win, fight for those who can fight for themselves, and don’t let things get to me as much as it could because life is too short.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is being around family or friends and just having a good time laughing, doing life with each other and eating good.
