Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisarah Larvick.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Faribault, Minnesota. I grew up on a small hobby farm with my parents and older brother. I competitively showed horses during my childhood and early adulthood. From a very young age I knew I wanted to be a nurse. My grandfather was injured by a bull on his farm. He had to get stitches above his eyebrow. I remember staying overnight at his house. I changed his bandage and got him lots of snacks! I pursued my dream of becoming a nurse right out of high school. I went to Minnesota State University, Mankato. I spent 4 years there and graduated with my bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2008. I took my first job as an RN in the ICU at Immanuel St. Joseph’s, Mankato. I spent the next 7 years working in their ICU & ER. My husband, Cody and I welcomed our first child in 2014. In 2015 Cody was transferred to the Twin Cities for his job. We moved to Lakeville, where we still live today. I took a job in the ER at St. Francis in Shakopee and worked there for the next 5 years. I always knew I wanted more out of my nursing career than settling in the ER. I had my first taste of entrepreneurship in 2019 when I owned and operated a small private pay home care agency. We provided 24/7 services to elderly in their homes. It was a very rewarding but very challenging business. Operating during a pandemic, the ongoing staffing shortages, never getting time to spend time with my family caught up with me quickly. We made the decision to move on in June 2021. I went back to my roots in the ER. I took a travel ER job. I went back to the ER in the heart of COVID. My heart was telling me I needed to go back. My team needed me. 12 years of my ER skills are in high demand. I spent 5 months in New Ulm, Minnesota. What an amazing experience it was. My bucket was full again! During my time in New Ulm I was working on my plan to start a mobile IV hydration business. I was taking courses, and collaborating with my medical director. We launched MN IV in April 2022! The vision behind MN IV came from my years of ER & home care experience. People like to be at home. Bringing health care services to peoples’ homes is in high demand, especially during a pandemic. Through the pandemic and watching the health care systems flooded with patients and lack of resources, MN IV was naturally born. I have poured my heart and soul into creating a luxury concierge IV hydration service with the mission to help people feel better in the comfort of their own homes. We have helped many people with autoimmune disorders, fibromylagia, parkinson’s, post viral syndrome and gastric bypass. It’s very rewarding to hear our client’s share their stories on how IV hydration has changed their life. Vitamin nutrition at the cellular level has helped bring back simple joys in their life such as walking their dog, reading a book, sleeping soundly at night and having the energy to make it throught the day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think there is anything easy about owning your own business. I have tried to keep my systems as automated and simple as possible. Everyday, I learn something new about the industry and IV hydration. I continue to educate myself and my team on best practices. My biggest struggle is figuring out where I want to take my business. Do I keep it small and simple, or do we scale and go big. Time will tell. I struggle with the balance of being a business owner, a wife and a mom. It’s really hard to shut off my work when my kids need me most. Somedays I really miss punching a time clock. When I would walk out of the ER, my shift was over. I could go home and focus on my family. Owning a business, you do not have that luxury. I have grown so much both personally & professionally since becoming a business owner. As hard as it is, it’s very rewarding. I’m happy I took the leap.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
