Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Liljander.
Hi Marissa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into photography began when I became a mother. I found myself wanting to hold onto the fleeting, in between moments. the way tiny hands reached for mine, the quiet chaos, the love that felt bigger than anything I’d known before. What started as a way to document my own family quickly grew into a deeper calling: preserving stories for others in a way that felt honest, emotional, and timeless. Over the years, that passion evolved into a business rooted in connection, storytelling, and seeing people as they truly are. Today, I’m grateful to capture everything from intimate elopements to growing families, always guided by the same intention that started it all, to honor real life and the beauty within it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been relatively smooth overall, but not without its learning curves. Like any creative business, growth has meant constantly learning – refining my craft, navigating the business side, and adapting as my style and vision evolved. Each season has pushed me to grow, and that ongoing process has been an important part of where I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I photograph families, couples, and weddings with a focus on connection and honest storytelling. My work is known for its golden light, thoughtful composition, and an emphasis on moments that feel real rather than too staged. I’m most proud of building a body of work that feels consistent and true to who I am, while also creating an experience that allows people to feel comfortable and seen. What sets me apart is my ability to slow things down, read the energy in front of me, and capture images that feel both intentional and effortless.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The most important quality has been staying true to my vision while creating an environment where people feel comfortable being themselves. I focus on making clients feel at ease in front of the camera, which allows genuine moments to unfold naturally. At the same time, I’ve been intentional about not chasing trends, choosing instead to build work that feels timeless and aligned with my artistic voice.
