Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Schnell.
Hi Matt, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have enjoyed building and designing all my life. It started with LEGO as a kid, then grew into wood and metal work as I got older. When I started my career as a graphic designer, quickly my building skills came into play. I started doing custom signs and mailers on the side for the agencies I was working at.
That kept growing over the years until I had a big enough demand that I was able to start my own business doing branding, design, and building. Now I have a good mix of computer work and shop work. Some days I am in the office building a brand for a client and the next day I might be out in the shop building a trade show booth.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
They have been bumps in the road along the way. The biggest was the time I spend not doing design and just running the business. As much as I love working with my hands a big part is proposals, meetings, presentations, and all the fun paperwork that goes along with being your own boss.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I do best is build brands. Whether it’s a new company looking for a brand that sets them apart with messaging, a logo, and a website OR a company looking to have a unique one-of-a-kind sign or office interior, I use all my skills to create something unique and memorable.
Recently, I have been spending lots of my effort doing more office interiors. I like to help companies take their brand and bring it to life, allowing employees and customers to experience the brand in their space.
I am most proud of the fact I am able to have a successful business doing what I love, and giving my customers memorable creative work that helps grow their businesses.
This is a tough one, but I think it’s my ability to look at a problem and find a creative affordable solution that still knocks people’s socks off!
Any big plans?
To keep doing great work, using new materials and techniques to help companies convey their message to the world.
Continue to create unique and memorable spaces that keep customers coming back.
