Meet Megan Mork of eco resale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Mork.

Hi Megan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I have been buying, styling, and selling clothing since 2009. I was the co-owner of two birds, which sold and styled vintage clothing. We curated a monthly pop-up shop and hosted a daily fashion blog. I was a style contributor at Goodwill, a style presenter for Second Debut, a fashion blogger for Southdale Mall, and a Styling Supervisor at Stitch Fix where I styled Clients every day.

My love for secondhand and sustainable clothing started when I was a child. As I grew older, I realized that secondhand clothing could and should be for everybody. I wanted to be a part of making it accessible and easy for everyone, so I started eco resale in 2018 with a website and an Instagram page. I started selling solely online and soon began selling at various pop-up markets and events. I am currently still selling online and have two racks of clothing in a collective at Northrup King Building in Northeast Minneapolis. I also offer styling services such as body shape and fit consultations, closet cleanouts, secondhand personal shopping, and thrift shopping “how-to” workshops.

My passion for creating a safer planet for our children blended with my expertise in styling different body shapes and personalities is what makes me so passionate about eco resale. I want to make people feel confident while saving the earth one piece of clothing at a time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I knew when I started that I wanted eco resale to be a very grassroots business. I never want to be pushy, and want my clients to feel special, so I make an effort to get to know everyone that I work with. With this model, I knew that it would take time to grow and that I’d have to take time and money to build an authentic business model. I’m still on my way up but have enjoyed every minute. Sure, there are weeks or months that feel better than others, but because I believe in what I do and who I work with every day, I feel good about any struggles I have encountered along the way.

We’ve been impressed with eco resale, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My main business is buying, curating, and selling secondhand clothing and accessories. I work very hard to make sure I am finding unique and fun items for people of all ages and sizes. I pride myself on getting to know who I am working with and often have clients in mind as I purchase pieces for the shop. I am a very good stylist and have both a practiced and intuitive way of knowing what will look good on people, and more importantly, what will make them feel good. I offer styling services with a focus on sustainability, as well. I offer closet restylings, where I go through closets and categorize clothing into piles of keep, consign, or donate. I will create new outfits from existing pieces and share pieces clients may need to purchase. For personal shopping services, I will meet clients at an eco-friendly shop where I will have picked out new outfits for them to try on. I offer my professional fashion advice and tailor the shopping trip to add or switch out any pieces that make my client feel amazing! For virtual clients, I offer a body shape and fit guide where I send a personalized guide letting the client know what their body shape is, and how to best dress and accessorize it – including personalized outfit suggestions. I believe the right clothing can make people feel wonderful, and I know that I have a knack for finding those pieces for all of my clients.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I wouldn’t say that there are any books or podcasts that help me be my best. Rather it’s how I live my life. On any day that I need inspiration, I often find that a walk along the creek or a glass of wine with a good friend will give me the inspiration I need. But if I am looking for fashion inspiration, I know that I can look up any New York street fashion site and I will find oodles of inspiration. I also am so inspired by Gen Z activists and leaders because I know that the children of today are truly making a huge difference in our world. People like Ellyanne Wanjiku Chlystun (@ellyannecg on Instagram), Tiana Day (https://youthadvocatesforchange.org/), and Stella Keating (https://gendercool.org/) and just three examples of strong leaders that inspire me.
