Hi Mikayla, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hi! My name is Mikayla Roddan, and I am so grateful to be given this opportunity to share my story with you! I was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin but raised here in Minnesota. After graduating from Prior Lake High School in 2019, I continued my education at Normandale Community College, receiving my Associate’s Degree in Business last December. Once I graduated, I began thinking about what lifestyle I wanted to have for my present and future self. I took a couple of months to think deeply about what energized and de-energized me and focused on finding myself and what makes me. I was scrolling through my camera roll and realized what was in front of me. I reached out to a photographer I deeply admire and asked if she would mentor me in the basics of getting started. I will be forever grateful that she was willing to take the time to help get me started and encourage me to follow this dream! Photography has always been a passion of mine. I am obsessed with taking pictures. Everywhere I go, an event, vacation, etc., a picture needs to be taken. I believe that photos hold so many memories that I can reflect on them repeatedly to relive those moments. Photos hold various stories behind them; whether they are happy or sad, they hold a memorable time in your life. When it comes to my clients, I enjoy getting to know their stories and capturing them in a way that feels like we have known each other for years!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, it has been a smooth road. As a self-employed business owner, I enjoy managing my days and hours and, most importantly, representing who I am through business. I have had endless support from everyone around me, and I couldn’t be more grateful to be able to turn this dream into a reality!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Mikayla Roddan Photography specializes in capturing all of your memorable moments with a light and airy style. I offer services such as headshots, portraits, couples, family, pregnancy announcement/maternity, senior, engagement, and more! All family members are welcome, even your family’s pet(s)! What sets me apart from others is that I take time to get to know each of my clients personally, what they are looking for in a session, and how we can capture the most authentic images. During your sessions with me, I like to begin the session with a few warm-up pictures to help ease any nerves. You will also have the option of listening to your favorite music to get you comfortable and help to set a fun atmosphere throughout the session. With kiddos, I like to bring a bubble machine and make them feel included, whether that is helping me take a picture of their family or siblings or even pretending to be their favorite character to help them open up and be comfortable in front of the camera. I also post a monthly recap on my social media pages to highlight the special moments captured each month. After a session, I like to send a handful of previews within 24 hours when a review is left on my Facebook page. A complete, fully edited online gallery with a print release is sent to you within one week from the session date. I am grateful for every session and the opportunity to work with amazing individuals!
How do you define success?
Success means you are content with where you are in life. It’s waking up, being positive about any outcome that lies ahead that day, and being proud of who you are. You are happy and excited to begin each day and to make a difference, whether it’s a personal accomplishment or helping someone around you accomplish something big or small.
