Today we’d like to introduce you to Myra Lynne.
Hi Myra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started painting again as a way to de-stress after a long day at the office. Through painting, I learned to trust myself and what I loved about the world.
During the pandemic, I was furloughed and I got to be a full-time artist. There was nothing like it and I knew as soon as I could I would make this my work.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been anything but smooth. Some months you are doing work you love and sometimes everything you touch is garbage.
When I first quit my day job, I felt so much pressure to create work that was “good”. It took all the joy out of the creation and most of the work was bad. I had to learn to let go and be okay with making a bad painting. There are so many lessons like that. I feel like I should have been paying more attention during yoga meditation.
As an artist entrepreneur, there are so many opportunities that make money for someone else but are not getting you to the clients & your ideal people. I learned to make my opportunities and network and that has made all the difference. People want to help and if you tell them how they can help you they will do it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am OBSESSED with painting animals! Growing up, we didn’t have any pets.
Well, we had a fish but he wasn’t an animal you could pet. I loved going to friends’ houses for their pets and still do. One of my favorite parts of my job is painting people’s pet portraits. I love learning about what is special about their animal and capturing it. I feel so connected to nature and animals when I get to paint.
After 5 years of painting animals, I have started painting abstracts with bright colors. Through painting, I have fallen in love with color and it is so fun for me to explore color on a deeper level through abstraction. I love learning about what paint can do and each day is such a joy.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Art is such a big industry that it does seem like things don’t change fast. Trends are laid out 2ish years ahead of time for art in licensing and home decor.
I thought that NFTs were going to shake up the market but it hasn’t happened. I do think it is hard to predict trends since technology is changing so rapidly. Right now, AI art is hot but I don’t know how much it will change anything.
