Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Burns.
Hi Nick, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have 15 years of recruiting experience at various Minneapolis-based recruiting firms. I had been thinking of starting my own firm for a few years, and an unexpected layoff in December of 2025, helped make that dream a reality. My wife homeschools our three children, so I find deep passion in providing for my family and making TrustedHire a huge success!
When I’m not working, I am coaching my kids on their youth travel basketball teams, and I’m the Travel Director for the Shakopee Boys Basketball Association.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has had it’s ups and downs so far. I have never run a business, so there was a ton of learning at the start – establishing an LLC, landing on a tech stack, establishing KPI’s to hold myself accountable, and really feeling vulnerable for the first time in my career. It has been humbling!
The first quarter was busy with meetings with friends and former clients wanting to hear my story. I even closed my first job in month 3! Quarter 2 has been a little slower, but I’m making traction and feeling optimistic.

I am the CEO of TrustedHire, and specialize in Accounting & Finance, HR, and Operations recruiting for small to medium-sized organizations (10-500 employees) in Minnesota and beyond.
I’m known for establishing long-term and trusted partnerships with my clients as well as job seekers. I focus first on ensuring strong culture matches while also making sure candidates possess the skill sets that align with the positions I’m trying to fill.
I’m genuine, trustworthy, and lead with integrity.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Clients – when they have hiring needs, we establish a mutually beneficial partnership to ensure they can land top talent for their job openings.
Candidates – I’m happy to connect with candidates who fit my job openings. If they aren’t a fit for my current openings, I can help them with career advice, resume review, interview prep, connecting them with others in my network, etc.
Pricing:
- Contingent Searches – 20-30% of placed candidate’s first year compensation. Payment due upon successful placement.
- Engaged Searches – 20-30% of placed candidate’s first year compensation. 5-10% due upon start of the search.
- Retained Searches – 25-35% of placed candidate’s first year compensation. 1/3 due at start of search, 1/3 due at interview stage, 1/3 due upon candidate placement.
- No fee due to candidates, my clients pay for my services.
